pH/ORP Sensor Replacement for MP-6 and MP-6p

Read these instructions thoroughly and carefully—damage caused by improper installation or
mishandling will void the warranties of the meter and the new sensor.
Do not allow any water to enter the open meter case. Water will damage the internal electronics.
Prepare and open the meter case
1.
Remove the pH/ORP protective cap from the sensor cup, remove the fluid and dry the sensor cup thoroughly.
2.
If the meter is wet, dry it thoroughly. Make sure the bottom screw openings are dry. Make sure hands are
clean and dry.
3.
Turn the meter over and set it on a clean, dry surface.
4.
Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws.
5.
Open the meter carefully. When the bottom case is removed, make sure the sealing gasket is not in the
bottom case, but stays in the groove of the top case. If the gasket comes out, handle it carefully and put it in
the groove of the top case.
Note: When the meter is open, it is recommended that the battery be replaced with a 9V alkaline type.
Disconnect and remove the old sensor
1.
Use a ¼ in. open-end wrench to disconnect both cable connectors from the circuit board (Figure 1 on
page 4).
2.
Push and hold the lock tab approximately 1.5 mm (1/16 in.) away from the sensor (Figure 2 on page 5).
3.
To remove the sensor from the meter, pull the cables and sensor body straight out.
4.
Remove the old O-ring and clean the sensor opening. Remove all the unwanted material from the old seal.
5.
Examine and clean the top and bottom of the case.
6.
Examine the case seal, O-rings, screw openings and screws. If necessary, clean the items.
Prepare and install the new sensor
The protective boot is filled with a concentrated saline storage solution that will cause damage if
allowed to come in contact with the internal components.
A damaged O-ring will allow water to leak into the case.
1.
Put the new orange O-ring in the sensor opening (Figure 2 on page 5).
Note: Do steps 2-4 away from the meter.
2.
Remove the tape from the new sensor and the protective boot.
3.
Lightly squeeze the top half of the protective boot and slowly twist and pull it from the new sensor. Make sure
the sensor body has the two O-rings attached.
4.
Rinse the sensor with clean water and dry it thoroughly. Make sure the sensor body has the two O-rings
attached.
5.
Align the sensor with the case.
6.
Push the sensor into the sensor opening until a click is heard and the lock key is in place (Figure 2 on
page 5).
7.
Connect the red cable on the left side and the black cable on the right side (Figure 1 on page 4). Tighten the
cable connectors.
8.
Remove the protective (light colored) foam that is attached to the bottom case.
9.
Remove the backing from the new protective foam and install it in the same location.
