CHANGING THE SEASON BASED ON AIR
There are system types that provide the change of
season based on air. They are:
2-pipe system with water probe downstream of
the valve.
All 2-pipe systems without water probe.
All 4-pipe systems.
The season is changed based on the following
criterion:
Cooling mode: if the room temperature
measured is lower than the chosen setpoint
in an interval equal to the dead band (2°C or
5°C) the system passes to heating mode.
Heating mode: if the room temperature
measured is higher than the chosen setpoint
in an interval equal to the dead band (2°C or
5°C) the system passes to cooling mode.
The dead band is decided by dip7 or dip7 OFF has
a dead band of 5°C while with dip7 ON the dead
band is 2°C.

ADDITIONAL CONTROLS

EMERGENCY FUNCTIONING
The following two faults are envisaged:
WATER PROBE NOT FITTED
In this case the thermostat operates as follows:
• Ventilation is always active
• The season change is made on the basis of the
difference between the setting made and the
actual ambient temperature. If the ambient
temperature exceeds an interval equal to the
dead band, Heating Mode passes to Cooling
Mode; If the ambient temperature drops
below an interval equal to the dead band,

on the water side, it also identifies ventilation
enabling thresholds in Heating mode (Minimum
Control) and Cooling mode (Maximum Control).
Depending on dip4 Normal band is chosen
(enabling heating to 39°C, enabling cooling to
17°C) or Reduced Band (enabling heating to 35°C,
enabling cooling to 22°C).
The absence of the water probe for 2-pipe
systems, in addition to not permitting the change
of the operating season, does not allow minimum
heat controls or maximum cool controls (on the
water temperature), therefore ventilation will
always be active.
If a 4-pipe system has only one water probe, this is
used only for minimum control of heat ventilation.
To also have maximum control in cooling, it is
necessary to install a cold water probe on the coil
(the thermostat can manage two water probes).
ANTI-FREEZE PROTECTION
The anti-freeze protection allows you to check
that the room temperature never falls to freezing
values, (even when the selector is OFF). If the

Cooling Mode passes to Heating Mode;
• The switching on or off of the resistor, in
this case, does not depend on the water
temperature but on the thermostat function
request.
AMBIENT PROBE NOT FITTED (2 PIPES)
In this case the thermostat operates as follows:
- OFF Mode - Aux
• The valve is closed
• The fan is off
- AUTO Mode, V1, V2, V3:

temperature falls below 7°C the thermostat
operates in HEATING with SETPOINT at 12°C
and the ventilation in AUTO, as long as the
water temperature allows it. If there is no water
probe or continuous ventilation, the ventilator
is always enabled. If the valve has a water
probe downstream or no water probe, the heat
exchanger is in any case pre-heated. It emerges
from the anti-freeze mode when the room
temperature exceeds 9°C.
COMFORT FUNCTION
In centralised systems in which units are
connected to a network, their setpoint is decided
by a central unit. The user has the possibility of
increasing or decreasing the setpoint based on the
table below.

• The valve is always open.
• Operating season always hot.
• The ventilation carries out some On-Off cycles,
during which the ON cycle is proportional to
the setpoint value set in the VMF-E4 panel The
total duration of the ON-OFF cycle is 5'20".
The following table shows some examples
of duration of the various ON and OFF cycles
