SAFETY REFLEXES
During kitesurfing practice, it is essential to have the right reflexes to manage the unexpected. It is important
to be familiar with safety procedures to remain clear-headed and responsive in dangerous situations. In case
of a problem, the correct reflexes to have are as follows:
RELEASE THE BAR
Releasing the bar allows you to release the tension on
the back lines and decrease the kite's angle of attack.
The power of the kite will be greatly reduced, which is
often sufficient for most unexpected situations.
TRIGGER THE CHICKEN LOOP SAFETY SYSTEM
ACTIVATE THE RELEASE SYSTEM.
If the situation escalates and the kite still has too
much traction even with the bar released, you should
then activate the safety release system of the chicken
loop. To activate the safety release system, push the
red ring of the release toward the bar. This action
unlocks the chicken loop, causing it to open.
>⃝●
The bar moves away, leaving only the safety line
under tension.
>⃝●
The kite is positioned extrados and generates
minimal power.
>⃝●
The kite is still connected by the safety line to your kite leash.
⚠ WARNING ⚠
The release reflex should be adopted in perilous situations. However,
>⃝●
it should not be the response to every kite situation. The foundation is to learn
how to maneuver and manage your kite to avoid the need for releasing.
>⃝●
Even released, your kite remains dangerous for the practitioners and people
around.
