Batteries and AC Adapter. Battery life for alkaline batteries is ap-
proximately 6000 print lines of continuous printing. If the printer is
left on without printing, battery life is approximately two days. To
prolong battery life:
Yo
Set print contrast to the lightest comfortable setting.
Turn the printer off when it is not in use. The printer consumes a
certain amount of power while on.
Use the optional AC adapter to greatly increase battery life. You
must have batteries installed when using the AC adapter because
the printer sometimes requires supplemental power from the batter-
ies during heavy printing. You can use either the Hewlett-Packard
AC adapter designed for use with printer (refer to page 13 for part
numbers) or an AC adapter that meets the specifications on page
13.
u should install fresh batteries when any of the following condi-
tions occur:
The print contrast is uncomfortably low, even when the print con-
trast control is set to highest contrast.
Printing slows because the print head moves across the paper at a
much slower speed. (When a large amount of information—over
200 characters—is transmitted by the calculator, printing slows be-
cause the printer pauses momentarily before printing each new
line. However, the print head moves across the paper at normal
speed. This is not a symptom of low batteries.)
® Printing halts before all information on a line has been printed.
B The battery condition index printed at the end of the self test is 1
20
or 0.
