Do not allow parts of the body or
a
clothing come into contact with the
flue pipe or chimney during appliance
operation.
To ensure safe use, wherever there is the risk
of accidental human contact with the flue pipe,
the installer must check that the temperature
of the external contact surface does not exceed
the values given in EN 1856-1.
Whenever the aforesaid temperatures of the
external surface are exceeded, the installer
must adequately protect the external surface
using suitable protective sheaths or isolating
the dangerous parts.

Generally speaking it is necessary to pass
through a wall to connect the flue pipe to the
chimney and in doing so, it is necessary to
consider that:
- If the connecting flue pipe has to pass
through partitions or walls made of
inflammable material which is not classified
as A1 according to standard EN 13501-1,
an insulating barrier of at least 16 cm, to be
calculated in line with standard EN 15287-1,
must be created around the connecting flue
pipe using mineral-based insulating material
(for example, rock wool) with a nominal
density of at least 100 kg/m
conductivity λ at 400°C not above 0.12 W/mK
(λ at 100°C, not above 0.045 W/mK).
This thickness may be reduced to 12 cm
whenever an approved insulating material is
used that has a high specific heat resistance,
such as calcium silicate with a thermal
conductivity λ at a temperature of 800°C not
above 0.17 W/mK (λ at 400°C not above 0.1
W/mK).
The thicknesses of insulating material
indicated ensure that the maximum legal
temperature of the combustible materials in
the case of thermal shock due to soot fire is
not exceeded.
