Secure the shift link to the actuator arm pin and
the shift lever pin with retainer clips and washers.

Lock the retainers by moving the angled section
behind the straight section.

IMPORTANT: After the shift actuator is aligned,
verify gear engagement. DO NOT use the Nudge
feature again until gear engagement is verified.

GEAR ENGAGEMENT VERIFICATION
WARNING
Remove the propeller from the propeller

shaft before verifying gear engagement.
Turn the master power key switch to the ON
position.
Position control levers to the NEUTRAL detents.
Move the control lever to the FORWARD detent.
Manually turn the propeller shaft to confirm
FORWARD gear engagement.

Move the control lever to the REVERSE detent.
Manually turn the propeller shaft to confirm
REVERSE gear engagement.
Move the control lever to the NEUTRAL detent.
Rotate the propeller shaft back and forth to
ensure the face of the clutch dog does not
contact FORWARD or REVERSE gear.

If gear engagement is not correct, a shift actuator
motion fault can occur when the control lever is
moved to FORWARD or REVERSE.
When a shift actuator motion fault occurs, the
ICON system:
• Flashes all gear LED's five times per second
• Sends service codes 108 and 152 to the out-

board EMM, which in turn sends a "Check
Engine" message to the NMEA 2000 gauges
• Activates S.A.F.E.
• Moves throttle actuators to idle, and shift actu-
ators to NEUTRAL
Use Evinrude Diagnostics. Open the Settings
screen and select the EST Calibration tab. Use
