Sand the joint surfaces, the base and the external flange of the Servo-Lock to ensure
that the glue adheres strongly.
With the cover plate in place, press the Servo-Lock in the opening in the wing, and
rotate it so that the pushrod fairing forms a right-angle with the leading edge of the
aileron. Mark this position with a pencil.
In this position the Servo-Lock can be glued in the wing.
Leave the cover attached to the mount while the glue is hardening, to ensure that it
makes good contact round the edges.
Allow the glue to set hard, then solder the extension lead to the servo lead, taking
great care to maintain correct polarity. Insulate each soldered joint with a separate
heat-shrink sleeve.
Push the servo lead into the hollowed-out area of the foam core, so that the servo
can be installed in the Servo-Lock.
The position of the aileron horn can now be marked. First assemble the aileron
pushrod from a length of M2.5 studding, two M2.5 nuts and two M2.5 clevises. Drill
an angled hole in the aileron at the appropriate position to accept the aluminium
horn. Note that the connection point of the clevis should coincide exactly with the
hinge pivot axis. Ensure that the horn is free to move inside the pushrod fairing when
the aileron deflects.
Glue the horn in the aileron in this position. Repeat the whole procedure with the
second wing panel.
Important: ensure that the distance between the hinge axis and the clevis pin is the
same on both sides. Set the servos and ailerons to centre, and adjust the pushrods
to exactly the right length. Apply UHU thread-lock fluid to the nuts and clevises to
prevent them working loose.
The Servo-Lock pushrod fairings can now be fitted.
The next step is to install the airbrake servos:
Check that the Servo-Lock fits in the wing panel; note that the depth of the moulding
is greater than required, enabling you to sand it back to lie flush with the wing
surface.
Use a calliper or steel rule to measure the depth of the recess front and rear, and
mark these dimensions on the Servo-Lock.
Cut off the excess material using a balsa knife or fine-bladed saw.
Sand the gluing surfaces of the prepared Servo-Lock before gluing it in the wing.
Hollow out a little material from the foam wing core to make space for the servo
extension lead.
Now push the servo lead back into the cable duct to the point where it can be
withdrawn again without problem.
Apply adhesive to the machined opening in the wing, place the Servo-Lock in the
recess and position it carefully.
