material (produced when cutting out the canopy frame) to the angled face of the
canopy frame where the latch hole will be drilled.
Place the canopy frame on the fuselage and push the canopy latch (snake inner)
forward in order to mark the hole position on the frame.
The canopy latch consists of a plastic sleeve (1.9 / 0.8 Ø) in which a length of 0.8 mm
Ø steel wire is inserted. At one end the sleeve should be sanded to a slight taper, so
that it fits easily in the hole in the canopy frame. Clamp a 2 mm I.D. collet to the other
end.
Remove the canopy from the fuselage once more, and drill a 2 mm Ø hole at the
marked point in the canopy frame. Before the canopy is glued to the frame, the part
of the frame which forms the instrument binnacle should be painted, and self-
adhesive instruments applied to it.
The canopy frame can now be fixed to the fuselage prior to attaching the canopy
moulding. We recommend that you use a contact cement (e.g. UHU ALLESKLEBER
Kraft) for this task, i.e. apply a thin coating of adhesive to both sides of the joint, allow
it to air-dry, then carefully place the canopy over the frame and press the parts
together. The final step is to paint the edges of the canopy white to match the
fuselage.
The tailplane
The only remaining task relating to the GRP tailplane is to screw and glue the
elevator horn to it.
Shorten the threaded shank of the brass horn to the point where the flange of the
horn rests squarely on the elevator.
Before the elevator servo can be installed, the servo lead must be lengthened using
the stated extension lead; secure the connector to prevent it working loose. Mount
the elevator servo in the servo plate using the retaining screws supplied in the
accessory pack. The elevator pushrod consists of two clevises, two nuts and a length
of M2.5 threaded rod. Apply UHU thread-lock fluid to the nuts and clevises to prevent
them working loose.
The wings
Installing the aileron servos and pushrods
Work on the two wing panels is limited to installing the incidence pegs and the aileron
and airbrake servos. It is possible to install separate servos to operate the outboard
ailerons, but details of the actual installation are left up to the builder. The extension
leads for the additional servos are already present in the wings.
Use your fingertips to locate the machine-cut servo wells, and run the tip of a hot
soldering iron along the edges to uncover the openings.
Hollow out a little of the high-density foam core to make room for the extension lead
and the servo lead.
