2 DURING USE

2.1 EXTREME CONDITIONS

Diving in extreme conditions, such as diving in cold environments, requires special
training, planning and preparation.
Refer to the separate instruction with document number 34228, available on the
download section of interspiro.com, for more information

2.2 EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

The following emergency procedures are examples of how to handle the equipment
in some emergency situations. The organization conducting the diver training is
responsible for establishing adequate training and emergency procedures.
CLEARING WATER FROM THE FULL FACE MASK
If water enters the full face mask during diving, so that the mask either becomes filled
or partially filled, the most convenient way to clear the mask is by using the purge
button on the breathing valve.
If possible, keep pressure on the top of the face mask while pressing the purge button.
This will prevent gas from escaping from the top of the mask and instead directing the
gas downwards to press out the water from the mask.
If the face mask has come off or become distorted, extend the head harness straps
and don the mask. With your left hand, hold the mask against your face. With the
face in an upright (vertical) position press the purge button until the water has cleared
from the mask sufficiently to start breathing. After a few breaths of air, repeat purging
procedure if you find this necessary. A small amount of water will always remain in the
mask after this procedure.
Alternatively, if you have a full breath of air, hold the mask against your face and
exhale to clear the mask of water.
When you are satisfied that the mask is clear of water, tighten the head harness straps
beginning with the lower straps and then following the procedure in section 1.3.
Consider aborting the dive after completing this procedure.
If the mask fails to clear using these procedures, surface immediately at the correct rate
of ascent, informing both surface and buddy. If breathing becomes impossible, exhale
continually during a controlled ascent.
FREE FLOW OF AIR FROM THE FULL FACE MASK
In case of free flow of air into or from the full face mask, the following procedure is
recommended:
1. Continue breathing.
2. Abort the dive and start ascending to the surface.
Under all circumstances abort the dive and resolve the situation.
