V1.0
MAINTAINING THE CUTTING BLADES
The cutting blade is honed to a sharp edge after heat treatment. This edge
may become dull after a period of use and will need sharpening. The signs of
a dull blade are a labored chipping sound; the belt skids, but is not loose; it
takes longer to feed material into the chipper.
1.
Turn off the engine and allow the chipper to cool before removing the
blade.
2.
Remove the end cap (#24) and hopper bolt (#48).
3.
Hinge the hopper up to access the drum (#14) and blades (#15).
4.
Turn the drum with a socket wrench using the nut underneath the
plastic cap to position the blades for easier access.
5.
Wear gloves that will protect your hands from the sharp blades.
6.
Remove the two blades (#15) from the drum (#14) by removing the
blade bolts (#16). Each blade has two edges; you may be able to simply
turn the blade around to use the sharp edge without having to sharpen
the blade.
7.
Sharpen the blade edge at an angle between 40° to 45°. Avoid
sharpening the blade anneal (colour) portion.
8.
Reassemble the chipper in the reverse order described above.
CLEANING
NOTICE! Do not use a garden hose or pressure washer to clean the
engine, as this may cause water to enter the cylinder and cause damage.
1.
Allow the engine to cool for at least half an hour before cleaning.
2.
Clean all exterior surfaces.
3.
Touch up any damaged paint.
4.
Coat other areas that may rust with a light film of oil.
LUBRICATION
Inspect and lubricate the tool when required.
