Check that all guards and deflectors in place and in good working
condition.

Check for signs of damage that could affect the chipper's function.
4.
Have a sturdy wooden stick on hand to push material into the chipper.
Do not use a stick that contains any other material than wood in case it
is pulled into the chipper. Non-wooden objects can damage the interior
mechanism or be ejected, creating a safety hazard.
PREPARING THE WORK AREA
1.
Turn off the machine before changing position or transporting for
storage.
2.
Move the machine by bracing the base (#39) with your foot, firmly holding
the feed hopper's (B) rim and tilting the machine towards yourself until it
feels balanced on the wheels. Walk slowly forward, backward or turn
around. Follow the steps in reverse order to resettle the machine.
3.
Check the wind direction to avoid working in the exhaust.
4.
Keep bystanders, pets and children at least 30 feet (10 meters) from the
chipper while it is operating. Flying wood chips are hazardous. Shut
down the machine if someone enters within the boundary.
BRANCH CHIPPING
WARNING! Do not stand in front of the discharge chute or attempt to open
it while the chipper is running. Flying wood chips are hazardous any may
cause an injury.
1.
Trim side shoots and branches from the main stalk before chipping to
prevent jamming.
2.
The maximum size that can be fit into the feed hopper (D) is a branch
2 in. (5 cm) in diameter (see Specifications).
3.
Push each branch through the feed hopper with the next branch.
4.
The last branch is pushed inside the chute with a wooden stick. Never
use your hand or foot.
5.
Feed thick branches into the chipper slower than thin branches to allow
the blades more time to chip the larger mass.
