Charging process
The charger has electronic protection against polarity inversion. The charging
current is only released once the battery is correctly connected and a minimum
voltage of 1.5 V is applied. The charging current is generated via an isolation
transformer and a two-way thyristor rectifier circuit.
When operating from the mains, the charger performs its main charging proc-
ess with a current restricted to 12 A until the supply battery (Battery II)
achieves a voltage of 14 V. From 14 V onward, the charging current drops
until battery voltage reaches 14.4 V. A timer is now automatically activated,
and the charger maintains the battery voltage constant at 14.4 V for a period of
6 hours. When these 6 hours have elapsed, the charger switches to holding
