charge, maintaining a constant voltage of 13.8 V. The charging process follows
the charging characteristic curve IUoU, with minimal energy loss.
If the consumer draws from the battery current that exceeds the rated value,
and battery voltage drops as a result below a predetermined value, the main
charging process automatically starts. This also happens during the six-hour
duration of the timer. The timer is reactivated on completion of the main charg-
ing process.
Parallel circuit
Driving operation
During driving operation, the starter battery (battery I) is charged by the gen-
erator of the vehicle. As long as the generator is running and there is a voltage
on the input D+ of the charger, the supply battery and the starter battery are in
parallel operation. The green parallel connection indicator lights up, and the
supply battery is also charged from the generator. If the charger does not see a
voltage at the D+ input, the parallel connection is removed, and the parallel
connection indicator goes out. The starter battery can now not be discharged by
electrical devices, and retains its starting capacity.
Mains operation
When operating from the mains, the charger gives priority to charging the
supply battery. When the supply battery has reached a voltage of approx. 14 V,
the starter battery is connected in parallel and is also charged. The parallel
connection indicator lights up to show this. The charger removes the parallel
connection if the voltage of the supply battery falls below approx. 13 V, e.g. as
the result of connecting electrical devices. The parallel connection indicator
goes out.
Solar operation
When connecting external solar cells, the starter battery is also charged pro-
vided that the voltage of the supply battery has reached 14 V. If the voltage of
the supply battery drops again below 13 V, the parallel circuit is disconnected.
