TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem
The engine will not
start.
The engine does not
run smoothly.
The engine overheats.
Low power.
Heavy vibration.
Forward drive does not
work

Possible cause
Empty fuel tank or old fuel.
Blocked fuel line.
Loose spark plug lead.
Defective spark plug.
Ignition key not inserted correctly.
The engine is flooded.
Open choke.
Blocked fuel line, or old fuel.
Water or dirt in the fuel system.
Check the oil level.
Carburettor not properly adjusted.
Carburettor not properly adjusted.
Loose spark plug lead.
Ventilation hole in filler cap clogged.
Loose parts or damaged auger.
Loose or damaged drive belt.
Proposed action
Fill the tank with fresh petrol.
Clear the fuel line.
Put the spark plug lead firmly on the
spark plug.
Clean the spark plug and adjust
electrode gap, or replace spark plug.
Insert the ignition key correctly.
If the engine will not start after several
attempts this could be because the
engine is flooded (too much fuel).
Unscrew the spark plug and wipe it
clean. Carefully screw in the spark plug
by hand to avoid threading problems.
A used spark plug should be tightened
to 1/8 –1/4 of a turn after it seats to
compress the sealing washer.
Set the choke lever in fully closed
position.
Clean the fuel line and fill the tank with
fresh petrol.

Top up the oil if necessary.

Put the spark plug lead firmly on the
spark plug.
Clear the ventilation hole.
Switch off the engine immediately,
remove the ignition key, and wait until
all moving parts have stopped. Check
for any damage. Tighten all screw
unions. Repair if necessary. Contact an
authorised service centre if the problem
persists.
Replace the belt.
