Assembly
Your lawnmower will be ready for use in only a few
steps.
For ease of transport, neither the upper handle (item 6)
nor the discharge deflector (item 7) (554/559) are fitted.
Position the upper handle onto the lower handle, so
that the 4 holes match each other and secure with 4
M8x45 cheese head screws and 8.4 mm Ø washers with
the hexagon nuts on the inside of the handle (item14)
(Fig.1). Note: Ensure when securing both parts of the
handle, that the Bowden cables are not kinked.
Discharge deflector type 554/559
The deflector axel and pivoting spring are pre-
assembled on the chassis. Insert these into the deflector,
after removing the screw (item 7), and assemble on the
mower chassis (Fig.2).
Inserting the starter handle into the cord guide
Release the engine brake by pushing the brake bar
(item 1) against the handle (item 2). Position the starter
handle (item 5) into the cord guide on the upper
handle (item 4) (Fig. 3).
Adjusting the cutting height
Your lawnmower is equipped with a four position
wheel adjuster.
On the front wheels:
Unlock the adjusting lever (item 13), move it forward
and lock it into position = the height of cut is increased;
move it backwards = the height of cut is reduced.
On the rear wheels:
Move the adjuster backwards = the height of cut is
increased; move it forwards = the height of cut is
reduced (Fig. 4).
Set all wheels to the same height.
Height of cut:
I
II
III
IV
Naturally, a short-trimmed lawn is the most attractive;
however, on uneven ground, the height of cut must be
higher than on level surfaces.
Starting
For starting, position yourself to the side or
behind the mower. Always maintain the
safety distance provided by the handle
length.
The engine is controlled via the throttle control
(item 3, Fig. 5).
Caution: The cutting blade rotates as soon
as the engine starts. Never position hands
or feet under the cutting deck.
Note: To disengage the engine brake during starting,
press the brake bar
(item 1) against the handle (Fig. 3).
Cold start
Move the throttle control to the
choke symbol (Fig. 5).
Starting a warm engine
Position the throttle control (item 3) to MAX.
- Pull the starter cord until resistance is felt, then pull
through in one firm movement.
Switching the engine off
Move the throttle control (item 3) to MIN, release brake
bar (item 1) and wait, until the engine has come to a
complete stop.
Note: Releasing the brake bar short-circuits the
electronic engine ignition, and the engine and
consequently the cutting blade are brought to a
complete stop in a few seconds.
If the brake bar is not pressed against the handle
during starting, then the engine brake will continue to
be engaged. This prevents the engine from starting.
