INSTRUCTIONS ON READING THE THERMOMETER
The characteristics of the Type 10 oven are such that the
temperatures are higher at the bottom and lower at the
top in the inside of the oven when it is standing in a ver-
tical position. Since it is important that the minimum tem-
perature be known, the thermometer is supplied with only
a 6" stem which is applicable for 14" and 18" electrodes.
1. The diagram illustrates the temperature variation inside
the Type 10 oven along the electrode holder. The solid
curved line on the temperature graph indicates the tem-
perature variation and the dotted line indicates the ther-
mometer temperature.
2. Using 18" electrodes the actual temperature will be
higher than the thermometer temperature over approxi-
mately 75% of the length of the electrode and lower over
approximately 25% of the length of the electrode.
Depending on the amount of electrodes in the oven and
the time the electrodes are in the oven, the temperature
can vary up to 50°F (27°C) from that indicated on the
thermometer.

3. Using 14" electrodes the actual temperature will be
higher than the thermometer temperature over approxi-
mately 90% of the length of the electrode and lower over
approximately 10% of the length of the electrode.
Depending on the amount of electrodes in the oven and
the time the electrodes are in the oven, the temperature
can vary up to 50°F (27°C) from that indicated on the
thermometer.
4. If a calibration check of the thermometer is necessary,
thermocouples should be placed on the electrode holder
tube approximately 5 ¾" (14.6cm) down from the top of
the electrode holder tube.
5. If temperatures are to be checked throughout the
inside of the oven, it is recommended that thermocouples
be placed at the desired locations on the electrode tube.
