operation is dusty, also wear a dust mask.

Before inspecting, cleaning, or servicing the
machine, shut off engine, wait for all moving
parts to stop, and disconnect spark plug wire
and move it away from spark plug. Failure to
follow these instructions can result in serious
personal injury or property damage.
GENERAL MAINTENANCE
Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most
plastics are susceptible to damage from various types of
commercial solvents and may be damaged by their use. Use
clean cloths to remove dirt, dust, Lubricant, grease, etc.
WARNING
Do not at any time let brake fluids, gasoline,
petroleum-based products, penetrating
lubricant, etc., come in contact with plastic
parts. Chemicals can damage, weaken or
destroy plastic which may result in serious
personal injury.
WARNING
Blades are sharp. When handling the
blade assembly, wear non-slip, heavy-duty
protective gloves. Do not place your hand
or fingers between blades or in any position
where they could get pinched or cut. NEVER
touch blades or service unit with the spark
plug wire connected.

NOTE: Do not lubricant while the hedge trimmer is run-
ning.
CLEANING THE AIR FILTER SCREEN (Fig. 8)
Remove the air fi lter cover by pushing down on the latch

with your thumb while gently pulling on the cover.
Brush the air fi lter screen lightly to clean.

Replace the air fi lter cover by inserting the tabs on
■
the bottom of the cover into the slots on the air fi lter
base; push the cover up until it latches securely in place.
FUEL CAP
SPARK PLUG (FIG. 9)
This engine uses a Champion RCJ-6Y or equivalent with
0.63 mm (0.025 in.) electrode gap. Use an exact replace-
ment and replace annually.
CLEANING THE EXHAUST PORT AND MUFFLER
Depending on the type of fuel used, the type and amount
of lubricant used, and/or your operating conditions, the
exhaust port and muffl er may become blocked with carbon
de pos its. If you notice a power loss with your gas powered
tool, you may need to remove these deposits to restore
per for mance. We highly rec om mend ed that only qualifi ed
service technicians perform this service.
SPARK ARRESTOR
The muffl er is equipped with a spark arrestor screen inside
muffl er body. After extended use the screen can become
dirty and may need to have the muffl er replaced by an
authorized servicing dealer.
STORAGE (1 MONTH OR LONGER) (FIG. 10)
Drain all fuel from tank into a container ap proved for
■
gasoline. Run engine until it stops.
Clean all foreign material from the hedge trimmer.
■
Store it in a well-ventilated place that is in ac ces si ble
to children. Keep away from cor ro sive agents such as
garden chem i cals and de-icing salts.
Abide by all Federal and local regulations for the safe
■
storage and handling of gasoline.
Always place the scabbard on the cutting blades before
■
transporting or storing the unit.

could result in a fire that could cause serious
personal injury.
WARNING
Be careful not to cross-thread the spark plug.
Crossthreading will seriously damage the
