Cleaning and Disinfecting
Warnings:
- Cleaning and disinfecting are separate processes. Cleaning must precede disinfection. If the product becomes soiled, or before use by a different individual:
clean, disinfect, and check the product for proper functioning.
- Clean the product regularly and when it becomes soiled.
- Follow all manufacturer bleach container and germicidal disinfectant safety guidelines.
- Note about sterilization: High temperatures accelerate aging and will damage the product assembly. The products featured in this manual are not packaged
in a sterile condition, nor are they intended or required to be sterilized prior to use. If institution protocol demands sterilization: First, follow the cleaning and
disinfecting instructions; then, open the inflation valve and use the lowest possible sterilizing temperature, but not to exceed 70°C (158°F), for the shortest
time possible. DO NOT autoclave.
IMPORTANT! After cleaning and disinfecting and before use, follow all instructions to set up the cushion.
Recommendation: When washing by hand, use room-temperature water.
Cover
Before cleaning and disinfecting, remove the cover from the cushion. Remove any hook fastener pieces from the bottom of the cover. Close the cover flap.
To clean the cover: Machine wash cold with mild detergent, gentle cycle; or wipe clean with neutral detergent and
water. Tumble dry low or air dry.
To disinfect the cover: Hand wash, using 1 part household liquid bleach per 9 parts water. Keep the product wet with
the bleach solution for 10 minutes, and then rinse thoroughly. Or machine wash in hot water (60°C). Tumble dry low or
air dry.
Cushion and Foam Components
Caution: DO NOT machine wash or machine dry the cushions or foam.
Before cleaning and disinfecting: Remove the cover. Remove the cushion components from the foam base. (See the
"Cover and Cushion Components" section in this manual.)
Large Air Pad and IT Pad
Cautions: Use of the following may cause damage to the cushion components: abrasives (steel wool, scouring pads); caustic, automatic dishwasher
detergents; cleaning products that contain petroleum or organic solvents, including acetone, toluene, Methyl Ethyl Ketone (MEK), naphtha, dry cleaning fluid,
adhesive remover; oil-based lotions, lanolin; ozone gas; ultraviolet light cleaning methods. DO NOT expose the cushion or foam components to direct sunlight.
Rinse thoroughly; detergent residue may cause the air cells to stick together.
Warning: DO NOT allow water or cleaning solution to enter the cushion components. DO NOT submerge the tubing in any liquid, including water.
To clean the cushion components: Hand wash, using mild liquid hand soap, hand dishwashing liquid, laundry detergent, or a
multipurpose detergent (follow product label instructions.) Gently scrub all cushion surfaces, using a soft plastic bristle brush, a sponge or a
cloth. Rinse with clean water. Air dry.
To disinfect the cushion components: Repeat cleaning instructions, using 1 part household liquid bleach per 9 parts water.
Keep the product wet with the bleach solution for 10 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Air dry.
Caution: Rinse thoroughly. Detergent residue may cause air cells to stick together.
Foam Base
Warning: DO NOT submerge the foam in any liquid, including water.
Warning: Disinfectants are not effective on porous surfaces such as foam. If the foam becomes soiled or contaminated, DO NOT use
with multiple individuals. Replace soiled or contaminated foam.
To clean the foam: To clean, wipe the foam gently with a cloth dampened with water and a household detergent, then wipe again with a
clean, slightly damp cloth. Allow the foam to air dry thoroughly before putting the cover on.
