Twin Cam Engines

• Camshaft Setting Plates
3888-12 and 3888-14
• These Setting Plates locate into datum
slots in the rear of the camshafts to establish
correct camshaft timing position. When the
crankshaft is in timed position, the slots in
the camshafts are aligned horizontally.

• Setting Plate 3888-12 fits into the
camshafts' slots to retain camshaft position
and is secured to engine with a bolt through
the vertical bracket of Tool 3888-12 – used
on F4P, F4R, K4J and K4M twin camshaft
16V engines.

For positioning Camshaft Setting
Plate 3888-12, the camshaft slots
must align horizontally below the
surface line of the cylinder head.

• Setting Plate Assembly 3888-14 comprises
two arms and a datum plate/bolt.
• 3888-14 is used on N7Q/N7U engines. The
slots in the camshaft are positioned at 45º
and the two arms mounted separately. The
arms are then closed together, positioning
the slots horizontally, and fixed with the
datum plate.
• To fit Camshaft Setting Plate 3888-14, turn
the engine until the slots in the camshafts
align are as figure 1.
• Bolt on the arms of 3888-14 and then turn
the crankshaft until the arms meet and the
slots in the camshafts are horizontal –
figure 2.
• Fit datum plate and bolt – figure 3.

critical and the manufacturer's
procedure must be followed.

cover to apply tension to the belt.

locates into two holes on the tensioner roller
to apply correct tension to the timing belt.
