• Adjuster 3888-6
• This specialised wrench locates into two
holes on the tensioner roller to apply cor-
rect tension on S8U.8144 diesels and also
some petrol engines – see PART 4.2
Section 1B:
Common Rail Diesel Engines - dCi
1.5 dCi Engines – K9K
➪ For model usage / engine codes
refer to Application Chart, pages 6-8.
• Timing belt replacement on 1.5dCi engines
requires Crankshaft Locking Pin 3888-13
and Camshaft Locking Pin 3888-1.

• Crankshaft Locking Pin 3888-13
• Remove the blanking plug from the engine
block to reveal the hole for the crankshaft
pin and turn crankshaft clockwise until
the timing hole in the camshaft sprocket
is just before its alignment with datum
hole in the cylinder head – this provides
the correct crankshaft position for inserting
Pin 3888-13.
• Screw in Locking Pin 3888-13 and continue
to turn the crankshaft slightly until the 'flat'
on web of the crankshaft is pressing against
the end of the Pin.

• Camshaft Locking Pin 3888-1
• The Pin 3888-1 is Inserted through the
timing hole in the camshaft sprocket and
into the datum hole in the cylinder head.
NOTE:
Some 1.5 K9K engine variants now
have an adjustable camshaft
sprocket (identified by 3 x retaining
bolts and elongated timing slot in the
sprocket).
When fitting new timing belt the marks on the
belt should align with the timing marks on the
crankshaft, camshaft and fuel pump
sprockets.
Maintenance work on engines must be carried out only by
experienced mechanics. Always wear personal protective equipment.
Composition and Function
There should be 19 tooth spaces between
camshaft and pump marks and 51 tooth
spaces between crankshaft and pump marks.
NOTE:
Check timing positions - camshaft sprocket -
positioned by 3888-1 Pin, crankshaft –
keyway vertically upwards and positioned by
3888-13 Pin, fuel pump – approx. 1-o'clock
position (mark aligned with bolt head directly
behind sprocket).

• Belt Tensioning
• Apply initial belt tension by turning
NOTE:
Remove Locking Pins, turn the crankshaft 2
revolutions by hand, and return to timed posi-
tion, checking that 3888-1 and Pin 3888-13
can be inserted correctly.
Remove Locking Pins, adjust tensioner clock-
wise until 'pointer' aligns with 'notch' (2),
and tighten 3 x retaining bolts on adjustable
camshaft sprocket.
1.9dCi engines – F9Q (series 600 & 700)
➪ For model usage / engine codes
• Timing belt replacement on F9Q 1.9dCi
If engine has adjustable camshaft
sprocket, remove one bolt and
slacken the other two bolts.

Adjustable camshaft sprocket –
check sprocket bolts are not at the
end of the elongated slots.
