9.3.1 Manual name assignment with rotary switches
Fig. 5: Rotary switches S1 and S2 on the bus coupler
The two rotary switches S1 and S2 for manual valve system name assignment are
located underneath the window (3).
• Switch S1: The higher digit of the hex value in the name is set at switch S1.
Switch S1 is labeled using the hexadecimal system from 0 to F.
• Switch S2: The lower digit of the hex value in the name is set at switch S2.
Switch S2 is labeled using the hexadecimal system from 0 to F.
The rotary switches are set to 0x00 by default. As a result, name assignment with
PROFINET IO functions is activated.
Proceed as follows for manual name assignment:
1. Ensure that each name exists only once on your network and note that the
name 0xFF or 255 is reserved.
2. Disconnect the bus coupler from the power supply UL.
3. Set the name at the switches S1 and S2 (see Fig. 5). For this, set the rotary
switch to a position between 1 and 254 for decimal or 0x01 and 0xFE for hexa-
decimal:
- S1: higher digit of the hex value from 0 to F
- S2: lower digit of the hex value from 0 to F
4. Reconnect the power supply UL.
The system is initialized and the name on the bus coupler is set to AES-D-BC-
PNIO-XX. "XX" corresponds to the switch setting. Name assignment with
PROFINET IO functions is deactivated.

9.3.2 Name assignment with PROFINET IO functions
Setting the rotary switch to PROFINET IO function
1. Disconnect the bus coupler from the power supply UL before changing the
positions of switches S1 and S2.
2. Only set the name to 0x00 afterwards.
S1
After the bus coupler is restarted, PROFINET IO functions are active.
Assigning name, IP address, and subnet mask
After you have set the rotary switch on the bus coupler to PROFINET IO function,
you can assign it a name, an IP address, and the subnet mask.
S2
The procedure to assign a name, an IP address, and the subnet mask to
the bus coupler depends on the PLC configuration program. Please see
the operating instructions for the program for more information.
3
The following example is based on the SIMATIC software from Siemens. The PLC
configuration can also be done using a different PLC configuration program.
Danger of injury if changes are made to the settings during operation.
Uncontrolled movement of the actuators is possible!
Never change the settings during operation.

u
In this example, it is the AES series bus coupler.
The bus coupler is shown with the IP address 0.0.0.0 (or an already-configured
address).
1. Select the bus coupler.
2. Assign the device names.
This name may only appear once in the system configuration. It may be maxi-
mum 240 characters long and must comply with the following DNS conventions:
• Letters, numbers, hyphens and periods are permitted. Umlauts and other spe-
cial characters are not permitted.
• The device name may not begin with a number.
• The device name may not begin or end with a hyphen.
• The device name may not begin with the character string "port-x" (x = 0–9).
Example: AVENTICS AES
A name is not assigned on delivery.
