10, lights up when the input signal is applied,
independent of the corresponding control
LEVEL (4)
7 Input selector switch MODE, each for the
inputs 2 to 10
MIC
: for microphones, low cut filter
switched on (200 Hz high pass)
MIC —: for microphones, low cut filter
switched off
LINE:
for audio units with line output
(CD player, tuner, mixer etc.)
For channels 7 to 10, the unit is switched over
between the corresponding XLR MIC input
jack and phono LINE input jack (15 and 20) at
the same time.
8 Priority switch for the inputs 2 and 3; when
the corresponding switch is in the lower posi-
tion (ON) and the input signal is applied, the
signals of channels 4 to 10 are muted for the
outputs to which channel 2 or 3 is switched
9 Level indication, each for the outputs 1 and 2;
in case of overload the red LED lights up in
each case
10 Bass control Low, each for the outputs 1
and 2
11 Treble control High, each for the outputs 1
and 2
12 Level control, each for the outputs 1 and 2
13 POWER switch with operating indication (if a
24 V emergency supply voltage is applied,
the preamplifier continues to operate even
after switching-off)

1.2 Rear panel

14 Outputs 1 and 2 via balanced XLR jacks for
connection to the power amplifiers
15 XLR inputs of channels 7 to 10 for micro-
phones*
16 XLR inputs of channels 2 to 6 for micro-
phones or for audio units with line output [to
be selected with switch MODE (7)]*
17 Mains jack for connection to 230 V~ / 50 Hz via
the supplied mains cable
18 Screw terminals DC POWER for an emer-
gency supply voltage of 24 V
19 Phono jacks REC for a recorder
white jack LEFT
= mixed signal 1
red jack RIGHT
= mixed signal 2
The level is independent of the level controls
(12) of the outputs 1 and 2.
*Caution! With the phantom power switched on [switch
PHANTOM (21)] do not connect any microphones or
other audio sources with unbalanced signals to the
jack, as they could be damaged.
6
20 Phono inputs of channels 7 to 10 for audio
units with line output (CD player, tape deck,
tuner etc.)
21 PHANTOM switch, each for the microphone
inputs 2 to 10, to switch on the 15 V phantom
power (position ON)
For connecting a microphone or another
audio source with unbalanced signal to the
corresponding jack, switch off the phantom
power (position OFF), so that the audio
source will not be damaged.
To prevent loud switching noise, only actuate
the switch when the unit is switched off or the
volume is turned down.
22 RJ45 jack for connecting a PA-PTT micro-
phone (e. g. PA-4000PTT from MONACOR)
23 Screw terminals for a momentary pushbutton
to activate the chime remotely

2 Safety Notes

The unit corresponds to all relevant directives of
the EU and is therefore marked with
WARNING The unit is supplied with haz-
ardous mains voltage. Leave
servicing to skilled personnel only.
Do not insert anything through the
air vents! Inexpert handling or
modification of the unit may cause
an electric shock hazard.
It is essential to observe the following items:
G
The unit is suitable for indoor use only. Protect
it against dripping water and splash water,
high air humidity, and heat (admissible ambi-
ent temperature range 0 – 40 °C).
G
Do not place any vessels filled with liquid, e. g.
drinking glasses, on the unit.
G
The heat generated in the unit must be carried
off by air circulation. Therefore, do not cover
the air vents of the housing.
G
Do not set the unit into operation, and discon-
nect it from the power supply if:
1. there is visible damage to the unit or to the
mains cable,
2. a defect might have occurred after a drop or
similar accident,
3. malfunctions occur.
The unit must in any case be repaired by
skilled personnel.
G
Never pull the mains cable to disconnect the
mains plug from the mains socket, always
seize the plug.
G
For cleaning only use a dry, soft cloth, never
use chemicals or water.
G
No guarantee claims for the unit and no liabil-
ity for any resulting personal damage or mate-
rial damage will be accepted if the unit is used
for other purposes than originally intended, if it
is not correctly connected or operated, or not
repaired in an expert way.
G
Important for U. K. Customers!
The wires in this mains lead are coloured in
accordance with the following code:
green/yellow = earth
blue = neutral
brown = live
As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of
this appliance may not correspond with the
coloured markings identifying the terminals in
your plug, proceed as follows:
1. The wire which is coloured green and yellow
must be connected to the terminal in the
plug which is marked with the letter E or by
the earth symbol
, or coloured green or
green and yellow.
2. The wire which is coloured blue must be
connected to the terminal which is marked
with the letter N or coloured black.
3. The wire which is coloured brown must be
connected to the terminal which is marked
with the letter L or coloured red.
Warning – This appliance must be earthed.
If the unit is to be put out of operation
definitively, take it to a local recycling
plant for a disposal which is not harmful
to the environment.

3 Applications

This mixing preamplifier is especially designed
for application in PA systems. It is connected
ahead of the PA power amplifier and allows con-
nection of up to 10 microphones (also phantom-
powered microphones). To the inputs 2 to 6,
audio units with line output can alternatively be
connected. To the inputs 7 to 10, audio units with
.
line output can additionally be connected to
which it is possible to switch over via input selec-
tor switches. All inputs can separately be
switched to output 1, output 2 or both outputs at
the same time.
A priority circuit to be selected of the inputs
1 to 3 by which the other signals are muted,
increases the intelligibility of important an -
nouncements. In addition, an announcement
with a chime tone can be activated.
4 Setting-up
The unit is provided for insertion into a rack
(482 mm / 19"), but it can also be used as a table-
top unit. In each case the air must be able to cir-
culate without obstruction through all vents so
that no heat accumulation occurs inside the unit.
For installation into a rack, 1 rack space is
required (= 44.45 mm).
5 Connections
Prior to connecting units or changing the con-
nections, switch off the PA-1412MX and the
entire PA system.
5.1 Inputs
When connecting the microphones and the
audio units to the individual channels, take into
consideration that channels 1 to 3 can take pri-
ority over channels 4 to 10.
Channel 1: with activated priority circuit [switch
PRIORITY at the microphone in position ON],
the channels 4 to 10 are muted when the talk
button on the microphone is pressed.
Channels 2 and 3: with activated priority circuit
[switch PRIORITY (8)], as long as a signal is
present here, the signals of the channels 4 to 10
are muted for the outputs to which channel 2 or
3 is switched.
5.1.1 Microphones
Connect microphones to the jacks MIC INPUTS
(15) and MIC/LINE INPUTS (16). Set the corre-
sponding selector switch MODE (7) to one of the
two positions MIC:
MIC
:
low cut filter switched on
(200 Hz high pass)
MIC —:
low cut filter switched off
If a microphone requires phantom power, set the
switch PHANTOM (21) below the respective jack
to position ON. Thus, a phantom power of 15 V is
applied to the jack. To switch off the voltage, set
