4.3 Mounting
Necessary tool: Spirit level, measuring tape and rubber mallet.
NB: The base must be level. Max. 1 mm/m tolerance. This is extremely
important to ensure that the rest of the installation is correct.
All stones must be level. This has to be checked for each new
layer of stones.
Important!
Bear in mind that the stones may be damaged if they are
handled roughly. Do not knock the mounting brackets too hard.
Installation should be carried out by a qualified person.
The soap stones are heavy and should be handled with care
during unpacking. Place unpacked stones on a soft base with
the numbers visible.
1.
Position the bottom plate in place.
2.
Fir the height adjustment stones in the bolts on the bottom
plate, see Fig. 5.
3.
Remove the heat shields by unscrewing the two screws,
M8x20 mm, on either side (Fig. 7-1A) of the burn chamber.

Lay the burn chamber carefully down on its back

Adjust the length of the 3 legs by loosening the bolt
Pull the leg down to position «36» and fasten the bolt firmly again.

Adjust all legs in the same way as described above
Screw the foot screw (Fig. 9A) max. 5 mm through the foot on
the burn chamber (Fig. 9). Do the same with the other two legs.

Attach the heat shield
burn chamber using the accompanying screws and sleeves.
See Fig. 10-2 for the installed heat shield.

Stand the product carefully up.

Position the burn chamber on the height adjustment stones
(Fig. 11). Make sure that the burn chamber is positioned stably.

Place the rear plate
(Fig. 12A) at the back of the bottom plate.

Fit the first layer of soap stone. See
of the mounting brackets.

Fit the front stone on the second layer.
14.
Adjust the position of the burn chamber in relation to the
surround, then level it both vertically and diagonally.
15.
Adjust the foot screws slightly from the sides to make the
burn chamber level. NB: This has to be adjusted in stages
to prevent the burn chamber from falling over on its side.
See Fig. 14. The gap below the burn chamber must be 5 mm
parallel to the second layer on the top. See Fig. 15A). The front
must be flush with the front of the layer.

When using an
Ash collection system (cat. no. 341280), this
has to be fitted now.

When using an
External air connection (cat. no. 341279), this
has to be fitted now.

Fit the side stones.

Centre the burn chamber in relation to the layers so that there
is an equal distance on both sides (Fig. 17)

Layers 3 and 4 are the same. Fit the side stones to the back
plate. The narrow front stones are fitted to the side stones
using the brackets supplied. See Fig. 17 for the finished results.

Fit the second rear plate.

Fit the supporting brackets on the tops of either side of the heat
shield for the burn chamber using the screws and nuts supplied
as shown in Figs. 24, 25 and 26. Tighten the screws loosely.

Push the brackets forwards towards the insides of the narrow
front stones. See Fig. 26. Check that the front of the burn
chamber is flush with the fronts of the front stones. Then
tighten the screws thoroughly.

Fit the smoke bell as follows:

Fit the accompanying gasket on the underside of the edge of
the smoke bell in the gasket channel.

Install the smoke bell from outside by fixing it in place using
the four accompanying M8x20 mm screws (Fig. 18).

Rotate the smoke bell to the desired position. Tighten the
screws.

Then install the flue pipe in the product's smoke bell. Use
gasket rope between the smoke bell and the flue pipe.

Fit the flue pipe in accordance with the instructions. The
surround may have a rear outlet or a top outlet.

If a rear outlet is present:

Position the third rear plate.

Layers 5 and 6 are the same. Start with the side stones and
finish with the front stone.

Screw the
outlet grid in place, see Fig. 21 and fit the narrow
front stone (Fig. 22).

If a top outlet is present:
for opening to the flue pipe, see Fig. 20. The edge of the grate
should be turned downwards for the best possible appearance.

pt. 36 when using a steel chimney. Place the top stones
(Fig. 23).

If a steel chimney is used:
used, an uninsulated pipe is fitted from the burn chamber to
approximately 1 cm through the top stones. Then fit the steel
chimney in accordance with the operating instructions. Soap
stone:The knockout has to be opened for top mounting of a
steel chimney, see Fig. 20.

Replace the exhaust deflector (Fig. 4A), and baffle (fig. 4B). Place
the rear burn plate (Fig. 3F) between the ribs of the rear plate.
The side burn plates Fig. 3E) are inserted at an angle at the front
edge and then swivelled into the back edge. An air duct Fig. 3D),
and log retainer (fig. 3C) are positioned last.

5.0 Installation completed

See the General user and maintenance manual for Jøtul I 400 for
the use and maintenance of the product.
5.1 Maintenance
If you have the misfortune to find scratches in the surface, these
may be polished out using a fine sandpaper. If deeper scratches are
present, a paste made of powdered soap stone and water glass can
be made up which you can use to fill the stone.
