• The cameras supplied are intended for installation and operation in indoor and
outdoor areas. However, they must never be used in or under water, as this will
destroy them.
• Never use the digital recorder and the power adapter immediately after it has
been brought from a cold room into a warm room. The condensation which forms
could damage the devices. With the wall plug transformers there is also the deadly
peril of an electric shock! Allow the product to reach room temperature before
connecting it to the power supply and putting it into use. In some cases, this may
take several hours.
• Avoid the following adverse conditions at the location of installation and during
transport:
- Dust or flammable gases, fumes or solvents
- Strong vibrations, impacts or blows
- Strong magnetic fields such as those found close to machinery or loudspeakers
• Safe operation can no longer be assumed if:
- the device is visibly damaged,
- the device no longer works
- the device was stored for a long period of time in unfavourable conditions
- it was exposed to heavy loads during transport
• When setting up and operating the product, ensure that the cables are neither
bent nor squeezed.
• Handle the product with care; it can be damaged by impacts, blows or falls even
from a low height.
• Disconnect the power supply from the power socket if the product will not be used
for a while (e.g., storage).
Installation of a SATA Hard Drive
Before you open the digital recorder and install a hard disk, disconnect the digital
recorder from the power supply; Unplug the power supply from the wall outlet.
• First remove the casing lid of the digital recorder by unscrewing its retaining screws (2 screws
on the rear side).
• A 8.89 cm / 3.5" SATA hard drive is suitable for installation (not included). For use as a surveil-
lance device, you have to install a hard drive that can be used in continuous operation. These
are usually more expensive than „normal" hard drives.
Some manufacturers of hard drives offer hard drives that are specially designed for surveil-
lance systems.
Do not install a conventional desktop hard drive into the digital recorder as it will age
faster or read/write errors may occur when the hard drives is used in continuous
operation.
Ensure also that the hard disk used will not generate heat as the digital recorder has
no integrated fan.
• Attach the hard drive to the digital recorder by the recorder's mounting holes intended for this
purpose and 4 screws.
• Connect the power cord and the SATA cable between the hard drive and the digital recorder's
control board.
• Replace the casing lid of the digital recorder and fasten it with the screws removed earlier
in this step.
Choosing a location for the digital recorder
• Select a suitable installation site. This location should be a place where the digital recorder is
protected from unauthorised access.
• Place the digital recorder on an even, sturdy surface. Protect valuable surfaces by using a
suitable mat to prevent scratches or pressure points.
• Protect the digital recorder from direct sunlight and heat. The cooling of the digital recorder
and the installed hard drive takes place via air convection. Never cover the digital recorder,
and do not place any other devices or objects on it.
• If the digital recorder is, for instance installed in a cabinet, a suitable cooling system is re-
quired in order to avoid heat accumulation.
• Keep in mind that the digital recorder must not be exposed to vibrations or agitations, other-
wise the hard drive will be damaged. All previous recordings will be lost.
Installing the security cameras
• The the security cameras are equipped with pre-mounted wall brackets. The bracket can
be fastened to a suitable place using three screws. Use appropriate screws and wall plugs,
depending on the surface.
Drill also a hole that is large enough to route the connection cable, if you want to install it out
of view and tamper-proof.
Please make sure that you do not damage existing cables or wiring when drilling/
screwing into place.
• Select an installation location where the security camera is protected against manipulation
attempts. For this reason, the security camera should be mounted at a minimum height of
2.5 m.
• Either run the connection cable from either side of the wall bracket or run it through an exist-
ing hole in the wall, where you intend to mount the wall bracket.
Protect the plug against dust and dirt, e.g., with a small plastic bag or similar.
• If the connection cable is too short (depending on wall thickness or mounting position), you
must use a suitable connection box. Depending on where the camera is mounted, this con-
nection box must be suitable for outdoor installation.
• Lay the cable in such a way that it is protected against tampering, e.g., in a cable duct or
similar.
• Align the security camera with the desired monitoring area using the adjustment options and
fix the bracket in place. You can do the exact alignment later when the image of the security
camera is displayed on the monitor which you have connected to the digital recorder.
Start up
Please consult the manufacturer's English instruction manual.
a) Connection
• One HDMI and one VGA video output are provided to connect a control monitor to the digital
recorder. The desired monitor resolution can be adjusted in the setup menu at a later stage.
• Connect the USB mouse enclosed to one of the USB ports.
A USB hub is included to connect an external USB hard disk to the digital recorder
later on. Connect the USB hub to the digital recorder; now you can connect a USB
hard disk and the USB mouse to it.
• Connect the digital recorder with the circular low-voltage plug of the power adapter provided.
Finally plug the mains adapter into a proper mains socket. The digital recorder will then carry
out a self-test and is ready for use after that.
Do not move the digital recorder with the installed hard drive when the latter is in
operation. Movement during operation may cause the write/read heads in the hard
drive to make contact with the magnetic disk. This may not only lead to data loss but
may also damage the hard drive!
The same applies to the 30-second period, the time needed for the magnetic disks
in the hard drive to come to a full stop after the adapter has been disconnected from
the power supply.
b) Accessing the setup menu, entering the password
No password is assigned. The preset user name is "admin".
c) Formatting the hard disk
On initial start-up you must format the installed hard drive using the digital recorder's setting
menu. This will result in the loss of all data stored on the hard drive.
Without formatting the hard drive, you won't be able to record video footage from the connected
surveillance cameras.
d) Connecting the cameras
• Screw in the antenna into the corresponding socket on the rear of each camera.
• Connect each camera with the circular low-voltage plug of the power adapter provided. Fi-
nally plug the mains adapter into a proper mains socket. The video image of the camera
should appear on the main screen a few seconds later.
The four cameras are already pre-configured accordingly, no separate settings on
the digital recorder are required.
If the LAN port of the camera is not used, close it so that no moisture gets in.
Care and cleaning
Never use abrasive cleaning agents, rubbing alcohol or other chemical solutions, since these
could damage the housing or even impair operation.
Before cleaning the digital recorder, turn it off and disconnect it from the power/voltage supply.
Then, wait for at least 30 seconds until the magnetic disks in the hard drive have come to a
complete stop.
Use a clean, dry, soft cloth for cleaning. Do not use aggressive cleaning agents as these can
cause discolouration. To prevent scratch marks, do not press too strongly on the surface when
cleaning.
Dust on a digital recorder is easily removed with a clean, long-haired brush and a vacuum
cleaner.
Never direct a stream of water from a garden hose or a high-pressure cleaner onto the security
camera.
