The analate technique is primarily used when the concentration of
the ion in the sample is relatively high, thus necessitating a dilution
to bring the concentration into the linear area of electrode re-
sponse. It is also useful in cases where the ionic strength of the
sample is very high and the sample volume is very small.

Reference Electrodes

Preferred types:
It is generally recommended that the ISE25Pb electrode be used in
combination with the REF251 double junction reference electrode.
The second salt bridge should be filled with the supporting electro-
lyte (often 0.1 M KNO
The REF201 Ag/AgCl or the REF401 Calomel Electrode with
saturated KCl as the salt-bridge solution may also be used; they
are very easy to handle and are ready for use.

Storage

Between measurements and up to one week. Rinse the elec-
trode with distilled water and place in 10
One week or longer. Place the electrode in its box and store in a
dry condition at room temperature.
Conditioning
When the ISE25Pb is taken from dry storage or from storage in
distilled water, it is ready for use without any conditioning.

Maintenance

Except for the previously recommended rinsing procedure between
measurements, the ISE25Pb requires very little maintenance.
However, if the sensitivity (slope) of the electrode decreases, or
the response time increases, the Pb
polished using the abrasive strip supplied with the electrode. The
polishing procedure is as follows:
1. Wet the abrasive strip with distilled water and polish the mem-
brane by gently pressing it against the emery strip while rotating
it for a few seconds.
2. The polishing is finished when the membrane obtains its original
colour (glaze).
