3.3 Exhaled air system (Fig. H)
YARA
Yara (all mask components are transparent) has
an integrated exhaled air system. Do not
connect an external exhaled air system.
Otherwise the therapy pressure will not be
reached.
YARA NV
YARA NV (retaining ring, elbow and rotating
sleeve colored blue) has no exhaled air system.
YARA NV must only be used in combination
with ventilation devices that have an active
exhalation valve. Follow the instructions for use
of your ventilation device.
If a therapy unit is used without an active
exhalation valve, there is a risk of asphyxia
should the unit fail.
Do not connect an external passive exhaled air
system (for example Silentflow 2). Otherwise
smooth functioning of the therapy unit cannot be
guaranteed.
3.4 Anti-asphyxia valve (Fig. G)
Only YARA is equipped with an anti-asphyxia
valve. If the therapy unit should fail, this valve
allows the patient to breathe the ambient air.
The risk of reinhalation of CO
reduced and thus also the risk of asphyxia.
Caution!
The anti-asphyxia valve is a very sensitive
component. Always handle it with care. Always
check that the anti-asphyxia valve is working
before each use as described in section 5
"Functional check".

3.5 Connecting the mask to the
therapy unit (Fig. H)
Push the hose system of your therapy unit onto
the rotating sleeve. Ensure that the connection to
the hose is secure and airtight. The connection
must not be loosened by the therapy pressure.
If you want to detach the mask temporarily from
the hose, pull the rotating sleeve off the elbow.
Caution!
If there is a high risk of transferring bacteria
between the patient and the unit, a bacterial
filter should be used. Also pay attention to the
instructions for use of the therapy unit.
3.6 Ports for pressure measurement
(Fig. E)
YARA and YARA NV are fitted with two ports
that can be used to measure pressure or to feed
in oxygen.
Caution!
•Oxygen therapy can have side effects if
incorrectly administered or used in the
wrong dosage. Only carry out this sort of
treatment if prescribed by a doctor.
•When carrying out oxygen therapy, strictly
follow the instructions for use of your O
system and your therapy unit.
When the pressure measurement ports are not
in use, always close them with the caps
provided. Otherwise air will escape from the
ports and the therapy pressure will not be
reached.
