6. DAB+ RADIO FUNCTION
6.6. DRC
The station determines the dynamic range for each radio
programme and this can vary depending on the type of
programme (e.g. pop, classical
music or news).
The dynamic range control signal is transmitted in parallel
with the audio signal.
The DRC function allows you to adjust the dynamic range
of the radio.
The dynamic range is the difference between the loudest
and softest sounds of the audio
signals played.
Changing the dynamic range can affect the 'volume' and/
or 'sound quality' of the programme you are listening to.
Maximum compression amplifies the quietest sounds
while the loudest sounds are
dampened.
There are 3 compression levels:
• DRC off - no compression.
This is the standard setting.
• DRC low - medium compression.
• DRC high - maximum compression.
