to the device.
- Do not allow halogenated liquids such as
Halothane and Fluothane to come into con-
tact with the polycarbonate housing of the
device. This could cause damage which may
compromise the integrity and proper functio-
ning of the device.
Remove the MIDICARD from packaging and
locate on the D716 holder. Make sure that the
locking system is open.
Close the locking system.
3) MIDICARD CONNECTION
WARNING
All connections downstream of the pump must
be secured by means of ties.
SUCTION LINES: connect the suction lines
coming from the operating field to the 1/4" or
3/16" inlet connectors. Caps are sealed and it is
not necessary to remove them unless additional
suction lines are used.
OUTLET LINE: it is possible to connect a 3/8"
line to the MIDICARD "Blood Outlet" connector.
To connect a 1/4" line use the 3/8"-1/4" adaptor
provided.
GAS PURGING LINE/VACUUM LINE CONNEC-
TION: remove the yellow cap protecting the 1/4"
connector for gas purging or for connection to
the vacuum line (through a water chamber).
F. PRIMING PROCEDURE
1) CARDIOTOMY RESERVOIR PRIMING
Prime the cardiotomy through the 1/4" and 3/8"
connectors placed on the device head.
Prime the oxygenator and the arterial/venous
system.
G. USING THE CARDIOTOMY RESERVOIR
FOR POST-OPERATIVE DRAINAGE.
For the post-operative autotransfusion with the
MIDICARD, act as follows :
1. Disconnect the asucker lines and the outlet line.
2. Use one of the following optional devices and
refer to the instruction for use:
- D 540 AUTOTRANSFUSION CONVERSION KIT
code 05053;
- D 540 W AUTOTRANSFUSIONCONVERSION
KIT code 05062, with water chamber.
H. CARDIOTOMY RESERVOIR REPLACE-
MENT
A spare cardiotomy reservoir must always be avai-
lable during perfusion.
After 6 hours of use with blood or if the person
responsible for perfusion determines that the
safety of the patient may be compromised, proceed
as follows.
CAUTION
Use a sterile procedure during the entire replace-
ment phase.
1) Stop the suction pumps.
2) Place two clamps on the inlet and outlet lines (5
cm apart).
3) Remove the vacuum connection (if connected).
4) Cut the inlet and outlet lines at a point between
the two clamps.
5) Remove the MIDICARD to be replaced from the
holder .
6) Fix the new MIDICARD to the holder. Connect all
the lines (inlet lines, outlet line, vacuum connec-
tion).
7) Check the connections and seal them by means
of the ties .
8) Restart the suction from the operative field.
I. MEDICAL DEVICES TO BE USED WITH
THE D762, D764 MIDICARD
All tubing used to make the circuit connections
must be of a diameter which is compatible with the
dimensions of the connectors on the device (3/8",
1/4").
For the post-operative autotransfusion with venous
reservoir use one of the two devices:
- D 540 AUTOTRANSFUSION CONVERSION KIT
code 05053;
- D 540 W AUTOTRANSFUSION CONVERSION KIT
code 05062, provided with a water chamber.
