without prior permission from the manufacturer.
The use of genuine spares and accessories authorised by the
manufacturer guarantees your safety. SALMSON take no
responsibility if you use other spares.
2.6 Unauthorised use

followed. The values given in the catalogue or the technical sheet
should not in any circumstances be exceeded, upwards or
downwards.
3. HANDLING - STORAGE - POSITIONING
Never carry the pump by its electric cable –
CAUTION !
there is a risk of water getting in by capillary
action. Use the handle. The pump should only be carried by the
handle provided. The pump should be protected against

4.2. Installation
- The pump station must be constructed according to good
professional practice.
- If installing out of doors, piping, taps, valves, electrical controls,
etc. should be protected from frost.
- The sump should be large enough to limit the frequency with
which the unit(s) start and stop and to allow the correct operation
of the float.

- If the valve is removed from the body of the pump, a non-return
valve should be fitted to each discharge pipe, appropriate to the
liquid being pumped, and an isolating tap for full way.
- The non-return valves should ideally be fitted in the upper part of
the discharge pipe.
- Use pipes with at least the same diameter as the pump's discharge
connection.
- If fitting two pumps, they may be connected to a manifold.
Equipment supplied
Each pump is delivered with:
- a 5 m connection cable with earthed plug;
- a built-in non-return valve;
- a built-in float switch;
- a DN40 (1"

- instructions for assembly and commissioning.
4.3 Direction of rotation
The single-phase units always rotate in the correct direction
(factory-set).
Three-phase : Check by the window of suction the direction of
rotation of the pump before immersion. It must be identical of arrow
located under the pump.
4.4 Installing the pump
CAUTION !
Lower the unit by means of a chain or rope tied to the handle.
SBS 2-204 pumps are designed for the following types of installation :
• Fixed submerged installation (See FIG. 2-3)
• Temporary submerged Installation.
Connecting the pipes
The diameter of the pipes must never be less than the diameter of
the pump outlet.
When installing in place, the pumps should be positioned and fixed
such that that:
- the pump is not hanging from the pipes ;
- the pump is not carrying the weight of the pipes.
4.5 Electrical connections
The electrical connections and checks should be made by a
qualified electrician and comply with the standards in force.
Check that the type, the voltage and the frequency of the mains
supply match the specifications on the identity plate on the unit.
- Use a cable that complies with local standards.
- Make sure that the general electrical installation is in compliance
with the standard IEC 60364 , and that the line power supply has a
high-sensitivity earth fault breaker (not more than 30mA).
- The pumps are supplied with 5 m of electric cable.
- Check that the circuit breaker is set to the value of current
displayed on the pump plate.
- Do not place the float switch close to the opening of the pipe
through which water enters the sump, which might move the float
about.
13
- Make sure that the float in its lowest position is not sucked in by the
pump; keep it away from the suction.
15
- Tidy the float cables away and adjust the counterweight
(depending on the model).
