INSTALLATION
All installations of the pumping unit connected to pneumatic
equipment must always consider the use of a safety valve for excess
pressure downstream of the compressor suitable for calibration /
pressure and conforms to guidelines or laws of the country where the
product was sold. If the product is connected to a receiver, the tank
must conform to the guidelines or laws of the country where the
product was sold as the hoses to be suitable for pressure and
temperature and type of use, be careful to carry the compressor in the
right way, not flip or lift it with hooks or rope.
Remove the compressor from its packing (fig.1), makes sure it is in
perfect condition, checking if it was damaged during transport, and
carry out the following operations.
Note: COAXIAL PUMP UNITS
Place the compressor through steel screws (type UNI5739 8.8) or
similar, firmly to a base, make sure the inlet vents and outlet air-
cooling are free to consent working operation up to 45 ° C
environment until the thermal breaker stops (recommended min 50cm
all around free work area). If the compressor unit is installed inside a
sound-proof cabin verify that the section of passage of cooling air is at
least 3 times the useful section of passage of shrouds.
NOTA: Lubried range
Replace the plastic plug on the guard cover (fig. 2 - 5) with the oil
level stick (fig. 3-8) supplied with the instructions booklet. Check oil
level, consulting the reference marks on the stick (fig. 8) or the oil
level inspection window (fig. 3).
AB RANGE PUMP UNITS INSTALLATION
Fit the fly wheel on the tapered shaft coming out of the pumping
element, in the sequence indicated in fig.1.
Tighten screw M8x25 UNI 5739-65 with torque 23,5- 24,5 Nm and
lock with LOCTITE 243 if necessary.
Replace the plastic cap on the housing with the oil dipstick (fig.2),
check the oil level by referring to the notches on the stick or the oil
level lamp (fig.3).

57389-65 class 8.8, 4 category "C" washers diam. 10,4 hexagonal
nuts M10 UNI 5588-65, on a bed with a minimum thickness of 3 mm.
Lock the M10 nut with LOCTITE 243. Feed pipe in aluminium or soft
copper, diam. 14 mm.
(See par. AB pump units installation )
S RANGE PUMP UNITS INSTALLATION
Place the joint (3) on the pump shaft (5) and place the two nuts M8
(2) corresponding to the surfaces. Fit the tab (4) on the drivingshaft
(8). Place the centering ring on the engine. Enter the group (9) in the
motor (10) making sure the tab (4-5) is at the nut M5 (1) on the joint.
Place the flange on the ledge of the motor pump unit and secure with
4 screws TEM8 UNI5739 8.8. tighten the screws (1-2) using the
coupling slot located under the pumping unit (use Loctite thread lock
2701).
Note
It is recommended to always use the protection/ ventilation shrouds
supplied to the compressors coaxial F-GMS-VS-VX-GM-S-STS. As
for compressors that are equipped with AB flywheel pulley / fan group
for the transmission belt / motor, you should always use protection or
"belt guard" in wire-plate - the plastic belt drive compressor . We
recommend using metal wire models because they allow proper
ventilation of the group letting the air produced by the flywheel / fan.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTION
Single-phase compressors are supplied with an electrical cable and
a two-pole + earth plug. The compressor must be connected to a
grounded power socket.
Three-phase compressors (L1+L2+L3+PE) must be installed by a
specialised technician. Three-phase compressors are supplied
without a plug. Connect a plug, with screw-on grommet and securing
collar, to the cable, consulting the table below.

Check that the mains power matches that indicated on the electrical
data-plate (fig.14) – the permissible tolerance range is +/-5%.
STARTING "AB" and "STS" PUMP UNITS
On starting for the first time, check that the rotation direction of the
flywheel is correct. The cooling air flow must reach the cylinder and
head area. After the first five hours of operation, it is recommended to
tighten the head screw, no. 6 M8x55 UNI 5931-84-8.8 with torque
23.5-24.5 Nm.
The rotation speed and the maximum working pressure of the
pumping element should never exceed the values indicated on the
technical data table.
The electro-compressors must be connected to a power socket pro-
tected by a suitable differential switch (thermal-breaker). The motor of
F-GM-FB compressors is equipped with an automatic thermal breaker
located inside the winding – this stops the compressor when motor
temperature reaches excessively high values.
If the breaker is tripped, the compressors restarts automatically af-ter
10 to 15 minutes. The motors of compressor models VX-VS-GMS are
supplied with a manually resetting automatic amperometric ther-mal-
breaker, located outside the terminal board cover.
When the breaker is tripped, wait for a few minutes and then reset the
breaker manually (fig. 12).
CAUTION: the head-cylinder unit can reach high temperatures. Do
not touch these parts when working in their proximity in order to avoid
burns.
Before attempting any maintenance jobs on the compressor, make
sure of the following:
– Master power switch in position "0".
– Pressure switch and the control unit switches all off, in position "0".
In case of connection with a compressed air tank.
-
No pressure in the air tank. The compressor generates
condensate water which accumulates in the tank.
The condensate in the tank must be drained at least once a week, by
opening the drain tap under the tank.
Take care if there is compressed air inside the cylinder, and water
could flow out with considerable force. Recommended pressure: 1 – 2
bar max.
OIL CHANGES – TOPPING UP WITH OIL
AB, S and GM – VX range:
Every 50 hours of duty check the oil level (fig.3-8) and if necessary,
top up with oil FIAC SYNTHESIS completely synthetic SAE 5 W 50
only. Replace of the pumping element completely every 500 hours of
operation. Remove the casing cap to drain oil. Fit the cap back and
put in oil until it reaches the level (fig. 6-7). Replace with FIAC
SYNTHESIS completely synthetic SAE 5 W 50 every 500 hours of
operation. With other types of oil for compressors, replace every 200
hours of operation.
RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE
In units F with 2 poles, replace the whole connecting rod unit every
700 hours of operation.
In units F and FB with 4 poles, replace the whole connecting rod unit
every 1500 hours of operation. In units GMS, VS and STS, replace
the sliding blocks and the compression ring every 1500 hours of
operation.
LUBRICATING THE BEARINGS
All the bearings are lubricated with grease for life with the exception
of the roller casing fitted on the connecting rod side of the GMS,VS
and STS units which is to be washed with solvent and re-lubricated
with "Kluber Barrierta L 55/2" grease every 1500 hours of operation
