Inflating the cuff and measuring
Switch on the device by pressing the Start/
Stop button. The entire display lights up (fig.
1). This is also how you can check to make
sure the device is in good working order.
The "0" flashes and when the cuff is com-
pletely deflated, this is confirmed with five
short beeps. The cuff is inflated to the neces-
sary pressure (fig. 2). Then the measuring
process proper starts with deflation and you
will hear a slight hiss. The "♥"symbol on the
display flashes and there is a beep for pulse
rate (fig. 3). The amplitude of each pressure
wave is measured in millimetres of mercury
(mmHg). The measurements of systole, dias-
tole and pulse are indicated on the display
(fig. 4). The cuff is completely deflated. The
end of measurement is indicated by a long
beep.
