Total wattage, voltage and installation
Total wattage
To prevent overload and potential damage to your generator, it is necessary to
know the total wattage of the connected power consumption. Follow the steps
below to determine to which tools and/or equipment the generator can provide
power:
1. Determine whether you want to connect one or more items to the generator.
2. Determine that the appliance that you want to connect to the generator is in
good condition.
3. Determine how much Watt each item demands by consulting the type label or by
calculating this (A x Volt = Watt)
4. Tally up all the wattages (1 kW = 1000Watt).
5. Tools and devices with a motor demand a higher peak current when starting.
Therefore, calculate 2.5 to 4 x the stated wattage.
6. The capacity of the generator must be equal or more than the total wattage
demanded by the equipment that will be connected.
7. Always first connect the tool/equipment that demands the most and
subsequently the lighter items one by one.
Voltage
WARNING! Before you connect any equipment to the generator, you must first
check which voltage and which frequency the item demands. If the
voltage deviates more than 10% than what the generator's type plate
indicates and the frequency deviates more than 3%, it might cause
damage. When you connect sensitive electronic equipment to the
generator, you must also always connect an external voltage regulator
in order to stabilise the voltage.
Such a voltage regulator is necessary, for example, when you connect garage door
openers, kitchen appliances with electronic display, televisions, stereo systems,
PCs, quartz clocks, copiers, telephone devices, etc.
Installation
WARNING! To prevent personal injury or damage, the installation of the generator
and all the maintenance tasks to it must be carried out by a certified
electrician or a service technician authorised for this purpose. Non-
qualified persons may not under any circumstances carry out work
activities to the wiring and electric circuit.
If in the case of a power outage, you want to use the generator as an emergency
power supply, a certified electrician must install it in compliance with local
regulations. In such a case, a reversing switch must be installed to make it possible
to switch from the electricity grid to the generator. This needs to be done in a way
that prevents the flow back of power (from the generator) to the grid.
