Please read through these instructions carefully before installation and use. Damage arising through disregard of these instructions is excluded
from all liability and from the warranty. You can find each current version of this guide at www.kerbl.com.

1. Safety notes

CAUTION!
Risk of personal injury, injury to animals and property damage due to improper use!
• Proper connection and laying shall be carried out exclusively by an electrician! The applicable VDE regulations shall be observed!
• This device can be used by children 8 years of age and older and by individuals with impaired physical, sensory or mental abilities or those with
insufficient experience and knowledge to do so, if they are being supervised or have been trained on the safe use of the device and understand the
underlying hazards. Children may not play with the device. Cleaning and user maintenance may not be performed by children without supervision.
• Observe the safety information and warnings! Keep the safety and warning information for any subsequent expansion or for checking the laying
of the cable and pass the instructions on to the person responsible for the regular visual checks.
• The gutters should be cleared of any foliage etc. before laying the cable!
• Keep the gutters free of foliage and other debris.
It may be necessary to fit a leaf grate to the gutters.
• The sheathing of the frost protection heating cable is designed only for contact with water and shall not come into contact with chemicals,
acids or alkalis.
• Before laying, check the heating cable for damage, cracks, transport damage or discolouration in the heating cable sheathing and on
the complete device.
• Damaged heating cables shall not be laid or connected to the electrical power supply!
• Check the voltage and power of the heating cable on the type plate!
• The heating cable must be connected to a 230V socket with protective earth contact. This must be protected with a B10 A or B16 A circuit
breaker. In addition a 30 mA RCD breaker should also be connected. A combined circuit breaker / RCD with corresponding triggering
characteristics is also possible. The RCD breaker shall supply only the power circuit for the heating cable.
• In each case, the RCDs in the consumer units, in the sub-distribution boxes and the mains outlets or terminal boxes must be identified with
a sticker with warning sign and information on the exact installation location of the heating cable.
• The power circuits with which heating cables are to be operated are to be uniquely identified in the wiring diagram and in the fuse/breakers lists.
• The correct function of the RCD is to be checked at regular intervals with the function button.
• The mains connection plug (230 V) shall not be connected to the mains during the installation.
• The heating cable shall not be shortened and is ready for operation as delivered. It shall also not be altered in any other way.
• No extension cable shall be used in combination with the device.
• The heating cable shall not come onto contact with itself of any other heating cable at any point!
• The thermostat should be positioned at the coldest point and protected from direct sunlight. The thermostat shall not lie continuously in water.
The connection cable shall not lie in water and shall not be exposed to direct sunlight. Do not fasten the heating cable by means of adhesive
tapes with aggressive adhesive.
• The mains cable, the thermostat and the transition between the heating cable and the thermostat shall not be laid in the gutter but rather
should project beyond the edge of the gutter. In order to guarantee better temperature transfer to the thermostat, this should be placed such
that the round contact surface is in direct contact with the outside of the metal gutter.
• Avoid damage to the heating cable due to sharp edges. (Use edge protection!)
• The heating cable is self-supporting up to 4 metres in downpipes. Adequate strain relief must be provided. Sharp edges,
such as the transition between the gutter and the downpipe, should be secured with edge protection.
• The mains connection plug shall be connected only in a dry room.
• Heating cables shall not be laid twisted.
• Do not lay the heating cable along parts of the building that warm up or get hot. (chimneys, hot piping)
• Use edge protection at the transition between the gutter and the downpipe!
• There shall be no tensile, compressive or torsional loads on the cable and its connections with the thermostat and mains cable. Never separate,
open or damage the system by force as this can impair the function of the device and void the warranty. The IP X7 (waterproof) protection cate-
gory is likewise no longer guaranteed with this.
• For safety reasons, earth pipework, metal guttering, metal conduits and sheathing before laying. Ensure that all metal parts are earthed before
starting with the installation. The conductivity of the complete system must be checked and any additional earthing connections required must
be established.
• The heating cable shall not be used on bitumen.
• The heating cable and the complete device are maintenance-free. However, they must be subjected to a visual check at least once per year.
In the event of visible damage or wear (cracks, cuts, deformation, embrittlement, charred points or discolourations) to the insulation,
the complete heating cable must be replaced.
• The heating cable must be disconnected from the power supply before starting with a visual check.
• If a breaker for the heating cable has tripped, the breaker shall not be reset until the cause has been identified and the complete device
and installation checked for possible damage or wear by a qualified electrician.
• The heating cable shall not be fitted with outside temperatures < +5°C.
• If the heating cable is stiff (due to cold), it must be unwound and connected for a few minutes until it has become warm and flexible before it
can be installed.
