6.1.4. Connection Example
• Voltage is supplied to the two safety inputs at the last Guard Locking Device in the chain (as viewed from
the evaluation unit).
• The safety outputs at the first Guard Locking Device are connected to the evaluation unit. The signal output
can be connected to, for example, a PLC.

6.2. Latching Force
The latching force of the SD4ICSx3SE89 and the SD4ICSx4SE89 can be set to 8 different levels in steps of
roughly 10 N, from approx. 30 N to approx. 100 N. This setting is made with the help of the Z0048 Adjusting
Target directly at the mounted SD4I.
6.2.1. Latching Force Adjustment
1. Open the door and disconnect the Guard Locking Device from supply power. Switch supply power off or
pull the connector plug.
2. Set the Adjusting Target so that the actuation side contacts the rating plate of the SD4I.
3. Switch supply power to the SD4I back on and remove the Adjusting Target no sooner than after 10 sec-
onds. The device looks for the Adjusting Target. The safety outputs remain deactivated when the adjusting
mode is active.
4. Remove the Adjusting Target from the device again. The yellow LED at the SD4I indicates the currently
selected latching force level by briefly blinking one or more times (e.g. 4 blinks = 4th latching force level,
i.e. approx. 60 N).
5. After briefly setting the Adjusting Target back onto the device for about 1 second, latching force is in-
creased by steps of roughly 10 N with open door. The number of blinks is increased correspondingly. The
changed latching force can now be tested directly at the door. Latching force can be further increased if
necessary. If, after reaching latching force level 8, the Adjusting Target is set back onto the device, level 1 is
activated.
6. Supply power to the SD4I must be switched back off again in order to permanently store the selected latch-
ing force. The adjusting mode is exited when the device is switched off. After switching supply power back
on again, the SD4I is once again ready for operation.
