20 CHOOSING THE PROBE

The probe consists of two main components, i.e. the stylus (1) and the skid (2).
Les paramètres nécessaires sont manquants ou erronés.
The stylus is an essential part of the tool. This sensitive component, which includes a pivot supporting the diamond-like probe
tip, is able to detect the least surface variation. Its construction conforms to the requirements of the standards currently in
force. Being guided by the skid, which partially compensate for the waviness of the measured surface, its use depends on the
type of the measurements to be taken.
Probe with skid
Les paramètres nécessaires sont manquants ou erronés.
The use of the probe with skid can never be the best solution for each measurement task. Therefore, your Rugosurf - like any
other one - includes a low uncertainty that can be eliminated.
The main reason for this uncertainty lies in the diamond-like tip fitted on the probe stylus as this feature has a 60° or 90°
taper along with a radius below 10 µm (usually 5 μm).
Comparison between the tip radius and the measured surface. The accuracy of the probe tip determines that of the profile
being measured.
a) Penetrating a profile valley depth
Penetration will be even better depending on the chosen angle and the tip radius.
