PARKING BRAKE
To engage the parking brake, pull on the parking
brake switch. To disengage the parking brake,
push the parking brake switch.
Pressing the accelerator pedal when the vehicle
is in drive (D) will automatically turn off the
parking brake.
NOTE: A light on the instrument
cluster will indicate when the parking
brake is activated. The indicator may
vary depending on the region.
Neutral Mechanical Override
The C250 features a manual transmission override,
mounted to a leg below the center stack of the instrument
panel. This can be used to shift the transmission into
neutral without vehicle power if the vehicle needs to be
towed.
ACTIVATING THE NEUTRAL MECHANICAL
OVERRIDE
When doing this procedure, you need
to take the transmission out of park (P) which means
your vehicle can roll freely. To avoid unwanted vehicle
movement, always fully apply the parking brake prior to
doing this procedure. Use wheel chocks if appropriate.
Do not activate the override lever until you are in the
driver's seat.
1. Apply the parking brake.
2. Switch the ignition on, but not the engine.
3. From the driver's seat, fully apply the brake pedal and
hold. Do not release. Pull the override straight out toward
the passenger seat until engaged. If done correctly, a
message will appear in the instrument cluster.
Note: Your vehicle remains in neutral (N) for emergency
towing purposes and is free to roll.
4. Turn off the ignition.
5. Once safe to do so, and there is no risk that your vehicle
will roll, disconnect the negative (black) battery cable from
the battery.
