Maintenance
Battery
INITIAL START UP :
Recharge the battery to FULL capacity before connecting.
Reference "Charging the Battery" section later in this section.
CONNECTING THE BATTERY:
BEFORE MAKING ANY CONNECTION
ENSURE all the switches of the equipment are in the OFF position.
CONNECT the grey connector plug from the motor harness to the
Figure 1
connector fi xed to the support frame of the heating coil (see fi gure 1).
DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY:
BEFORE DISCONNECTING
ENSURE all the switches of the equipment are in the OFF position.
STORAGE INSTRUCTIONS:
When the equipment will not be in use for more than a month DISCONNECT the battery according to the previous instructions and
recharge it to full capacity. Before next use, charge the battery again to full capacity before plugging it in.
If the equipment is stored in a place that is not heated, it is not necessary to remove the battery. The battery discharges less quickly in the
cold than if it is in a heated place. If storage is prolonged, recharge the battery every 3 months.
BATTERY ELECTROLYTE :
Every 100 hours of operation or every 6 months.
CHECK the battery electrolyte (acid) level. Each cell must be checked individually. The level must be between the minimum and maximum
level indications on the housing of the battery or lightly covering the top of the plates. The level should be checked when the battery is fully
charged. USE distilled water to ADD to the electrolyte when required.
CAUTION
DO NOT add acid or use tap water.
KEEP the top of the battery clean and dry.
NEVER REMOVE the vent caps during use and charging. Only remove caps to check the electrolyte level or to add distilled water.
CHARGING THE BATTERY:
Use a charger that regulates the voltage to a fi xed level. This level should be between 14 and 14.5 volts. The charger must also
be equipped an ammeter to determine when the battery is suffi ciently charged.
For added safety, use a charger with a reverse polarity protection system, or at least with a polarity indicator.
Make sure the charger is OFF before connecting it to the battery.
First connect the red (positive) alligator clip to the positive battery lead.
To prevent any short circuit from any exposed surrounding metal parts, wrap the open connection if necessary.
Only then, connect the black clamp to a part of the device that is grounded, such as an engine bolt. Ensure the anchor the
teeth of the clamps are securely attached into the metal of the terminals. Then switch on the charger.
While recharging, make sure that there is no source of heat, sparks or open flame near the battery; the gases released are
explosives.
