4.12- Saw Chain Oil
The lifetime of the chain and guide bar depends greatly on the quality of lubricant used.
Choose a chain lubricant that is environmental friendly.
Use only quality chainsaw oil without sticking additive for lubricating the saw chain and guide bar.
Do not use used or recycled oil, as it could damage the oil pump!
Used oil does not have the required lubricating properties for lubricating the saw chain and, in
addition, it is harmful for the environment.
Oils for saw chains stick when not being used for longer time. This can cause damage to oil
pump or parts leading the oil. Therefore, prior to each storage:
- Empty the oil from oil tank.
- Fill in the tank with little engine oil.
- Allow the chain saw to run for some time to enable the oil leadings and oil pump clean.
- Before other use of the chainsaw, refill the tank with oil for saw chains again.
Store oil in certified containers (such as Jerrycan).
4.13- Chain Brake
The chainsaw is equipped with a chain brake (front handle guard (3)) that reduces possibility of
injury due to kickback.
The brake is activated if pressure is applied against brake lever when, as in the event of kickback,
operator's hand strikes the lever. The chain movement and motor will stop abruptly in 0.15s when the
brake is actuated.
The purpose of the chain brake is to reduce the possibility of injury due to kickback; however, it
cannot provide the intended measure of protection if the saw is operated carelessly.
Always test the chain brake before using your chainsaw and periodically while on the job.
4.13.1- Chain brake - Mechanical Test with the Engine Switched off
Put protective gloves on.
1. The chain brake is disengaged (i.e. chain can move) when brake
lever (3) is pulled backwards and locked towards the front handle
(Fig.7).
You should be able to move the chain by gloved hands.
2. The chain brake is engaged (chain is locked) when brake lever
(3) is pushed away from the front handle in forward position ( fig.6).
You should not be able to move chain
4.13.2- Chain Brake - Test When the Engine is running
Before starting any work, always test this functionality when the engine is running.
1. Hold the chain saw securely and firmly by the front (11) and rear
(7) handles.
2. Start the motor.
3. Press the hand guard (3) toward the front (Fig.8). This should
cause the saw chain and motor to stop immediately.
The motor may not start while the chain brake is engaged.
The chainsaw should not be operated, if the saw chain does not come to a standstill immediately.
