TC4-1CH Adjustment Knob Used to adjust the value of a selected parameter. Three-Digit Display Displays temperatures and other parameters shown on the ad- justment knob. Program Pilot Light Turns on when the program sequence is activated or when the starting day for the second or third programs are displayed.

TC4-1CH Internal Switches The internal switches are located on the inside of the front cover and are defined in the following diagram : Locked Parameters Celsius Units Calibration not used Fahrenheit Units Unlocked Parameters NOTE: When the controller is shipped from the factory, all the switches are set to OFF.

These initial parameter settings will not be retained in the controller's memory. Each new setting will replace the preceding one. ii) If the power supply is cut off, the last parameter settings will be retained in memory until power is restored. TC4-1CH.rev.01...

TC4-1CH ALIBRATION The controller is ready to be calibrated when the winch that controls the chimney damper is connected to it. This step is essential to ensure an accurate control of the winch. To complete this task, the operator must manually position the damper opening for five pre-defined points: 0% (closed), 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% (open).
Page 11
TC4-1CH The number 75 now flashes on the display corresponding to a 75% damper opening. Using the manual controls, open the damper to three quarters. Set the selection knob to MANUAL STOP and press the push- button. The number 100 now flashes on the display corresponding to a full damper opening.
Page 12
The parameter settings can be locked to prevent accidentally changing them. To lock the parameter settings, set internal switch # 1 to ON. The following parameters do not lock : temperature set point program sequence activation / deactivation current day number TC4-1CH.rev.01...

Turn the adjustment knob one knotch further to the right to display the current temperature once again. If the adjustment knob is turned counterclockwise, the display se- quence is reversed (current T -maximum-minimum-current T TC4-1CH.rev.01...
Page 14
TC4-1CH NOTE: If you let the display flash for more than 10 seconds, the con- troller resets the minimum and maximum temperatures currently in memory (the display stops flashing to indicate that the reset has been done). UTOMATIC POSITIONING OF THE DAMPER The basic purpose of the chimney controller is to automatically position the damper as a function of outside temperature.
Page 15
TC4-1CH NOTE: Restrictions apply when defining the curve points in order to avoid errors. The difference between the minimum and the maximum opening must be greater or equal to 5%. Likewise, the difference be- tween the two temperatures must be greater or equal to 5 F (or 2.8...
Page 16
TC4-1CH ECURITY OVERRIDES A security override can be defined to disable the automatic positioning of the damper in case of a sudden change in room temperature. High and low offsets are defined on either side of the temperature set point. These offsets define a normal range of operation within which the controller will adjust the damper opening as a function of outside temperature.
Page 17
TC4-1CH Adjusting the Security Offsets Set the selection knob to SECURITY OFFSETS. "LO" is dis- played, alternating with the current lower offset. Use the adjustment knob to adjust the lower offset. Press the push-button to store the value in memory.
Page 18
TC4-1CH ROGRAM SEQUENCE To control the damper over a longer time period, a sequence of three programs can be defined. Each program defines a linear relationship between outside temperature and damper opening. The duration of a program is defined by a starting day. The current day can be adjusted to start the sequence on any given day.
Page 19
TC4-1CH The maximum temperature is displayed, alternating with "P-1". Use the adjustment knob to adjust the maximum temperature. Press the push-button to store the value in memory. The maximum opening is displayed, alternating with "P-1". Use the adjustment knob to adjust the maximum opening for the first program curve.
Page 20
TC4-1CH Viewing and Adjusting Current Day Number If the program sequence is activated, you can view and adjust the cur- rent day number. If the change modifies the parameter settings, the controller will operate according to the new parameter settings. The controller does not display a current day greater than 99 even if it contin- ues to operate with the current parameter settings.
Page 21
TC4-1CH LARM CODES The controller can detect certain errors and set off the alarm relay to warn of the problem (to connect the relay, see the wiring diagram in- cluded with this manual). The two probes and the potentiometer are tested periodically to warn of errors.
Page 22
TC4-1CH In addition to detecting these errors, the controller is programmed to react to certain situations and avoid making things worse. The following diagram shows the controller logic in these cases. Check indoor probe ERROR Check outdoor probe Check outdoor probe...
Page 23
TC4-1CH System Response: TIMER: The controller checks the room temperature. If it falls within the normal range of operation as defined by the security offsets (see above), the controller stops operating the winch. If the room temperature is out- side the normal range, the controller operates the winch according to a 15 seconds ON / 240 seconds OFF -cycle.
