Congratulations!
You are the proud owner of a Yamaha MFCOS MIDI Foot
Controller.
The MFCO5 makes control of MIDI instruments
and effect units more convenient by allowing programs
1
through 10 to be selected by simply tapping a footswitch.
The MFCOS
is built to Yamaha's rigid quality standards,
and will provide reliable service for many years if handled
properly
Please read this operation manual thoroughly before setting
up and using your MFCOS
1. PRECAUTIONS
® Keep the unit away from locations where it is likely to be
exposed to high temperatures or humidity—such
as near
radiators, stoves, etc. Also avoid locations which are subject
to excessive dust accumulation
or vibration which could
cause mechanical damage
® Strong physical shocks to the unit can cause damage. Handle
it with care.
® This product contains no user-serviceable parts.
Refer all
maintenance to qualified Yamaha service personnel. Opening
the unit and/or tampering with the internal circuitry will
void the warranty.
® Always turn the power OFF prior to connecting or dis-
connecting cables, This is important to prevent damage to
the unit itself as well as other connected equipment
@ Always plug and unplug cables by gripping the connector,
not the cord.
® Never use solvents such as benzine or thinner to clean the
unit. Wipe clean with a soft, dry cloth.
@® The MECOS will run from dry batteries or an optional AC
adapter.
Use ONLY
the Yamaha
PA-1
(B) AC adapter
when running the MFC05 from the AC mains. Attempting
to use other AC adapters can cause serious damage.
@ The
MFCOS
contains
digital
circuitry,
and
may
cause
interference if placed too close to television or radio re-
ceivers, or other broadcast reception equipment. If inter-
ference occurs,
move
the MFCOS
further away
from the
affected equipment
© The MFCO5 should always be turned ON before other equip-
ment connected to it is turned ON
© If your MFCOS will not be used for an extended period of
time, remove the internal batteries. The AC adapter should
be unplugged
from
the AC
mains
outlet whenever
the
MFCOS is not being used.
@ Always use the MFCOS with a properly constructed MIDI
cable.
Never use a MIDI cable longer than 15 meters.
2. SETTING UP
Please set up the MFCOS according to the following procedure
@ Install the batteries as described in the previous section.
@ After making sure that both the MFCOS power switch and
the power switch of the equipment to be controlled are OFF,
connect an appropriate MIDI
cable (less than
15 meters)
from the MFC05
MIDI OUT
connector to the MIDI IN
connector on the receiving device. The receiving device can
be a MIDI
synthesizer or a MIDI-controllable effect unit
such as the Yamaha
REX50,
SPX90 II, REVS, etc.
@ First turn the MFCOS power switch ON, and chen the power
switch of the receiving device.
When
the MFCOS
power
switch is turned ON, the BANK A LED indicator will light.
@ Set the receive channel of the receiving MIDI device to either
1 or OMNI.
The MFCOS transmits only on channel 1
© Since the MFCO5 transmits MIDI program change numbers
1 through 10, make sure the programs you wish to select on
the receiving device are stored in the appropriate memory
locations.
If your receiving device uses a program change
assignment table, make sure it is set to to allow you to
select the desired programs
3. OPERATION
Operating the MFCOS is simplicity itself. You can transmit any
MIDI program change number
from 1 (00) to 10 (09) simply
by pressing the appropriate program select footswitch, or the
bank select footswitch and one of the program
select foot-
switches.
