Welding fi lter
USER INSTRUCTIONS
Please read these instructions in conjunction with 3M™
Speedglas™ Welding Shield User Instructions and Refe-
rence leafl et where you will fi nd information on approved
combinations, spare parts and accessories.
UNPACKING
Your Speedglas 9100 welding fi lter pack should contain
welding fi lter, outer protection plate, inner cover plate, user
instruction and reference leafl et.
SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The Speedglas 9100 welding fi lter is designed to be used
only together with 3M Speedglas 9100 welding shield
series.
The Speedglas 9100 welding fi lter help protect the wearer's
eyes and gives permanent protection (shade 13 equivalent
regardless of whether the fi lter is in the light or dark state or
whether the auto-darkening function is operational) against
harmful ultra-violet radiation (UV) and infra-red radiation
(IR) resulting from certain arc/gas welding processes.
WARNING
Proper selection, training, use and maintenance are
essential in order for the product to help protect the
wearer. Failure to follow all instructions on the use of
these protection products and/or failure to properly wear
the complete product during all periods of exposure may
adversely affect the wearer's health, lead to severe or
life threatening illness, injury or permanent disability.For
suitability and proper use follow local regulations, refer to
all information supplied.
Particular attention should be given to warning state-
ments
where indicated.
APPROVALS
The products meet the requirements of the European
Community Directive 89/686/EEC (Personal Protective
Equipment Directive) and are thus CE marked. The
products comply with the harmonized European Standards
EN 379 and EN 166. Certifi cation under Article 10, EC
Type-Examination has been issued by DIN Certco Prüf- und
Zertifi erungszentrum (Notifi ed body number 0196).
LIMITATIONS OF USE
Only use with original 3M™ Speedglas™ brand Spare
Parts and Accessories listed in the reference leafl et
and within the usage conditions given in the Technical
Specifi cations.
The use of substitute components or modifi cations
not specifi ed in these user instructions might seriously
impair protection and may invalidate claims under the
warranty or cause the product to be noncompliant with
protection classifi cations and approvals. Use only with
welding shields listed in the reference leafl et.

spectacles may transmit impacts thus creating a hazard
to the wearer.
Should the Speedglas 9100 welding shield fail to switch
to the dark state in response to an arc, stop welding
immediately and inspect the welding fi lter as described
in these instructions. Continued use of a welding fi lter
that fails to switch to the dark state may cause temporary
vision loss. If the problem cannot be identifi ed and
corrected, do not use the welding fi lter, contact your
supervisor, distributor or 3M for assistance.

Use of this product in applications outside its intended
use, such as laser welding/cutting, may result in
permanent eye injury and vision loss.
EQUIPMENT MARKING
The welding fi lter is marked with the shade range and
optical classifi cations.
Note! The following is an example (EN 379). Valid
classifi cation is marked on the welding fi lter:

Number of standard
The markings on the protection plates indicate the number of
the standard (EN166) and safety class for protection against
high speed particles. S stands for the basic requirement for
increased robustness, BT stands for medium energy impact
at extremes of temperature (-5°C and +55°C). Additional
markings on the product refer to other standards.
PREPARATION FOR USE
Carefully inspect the complete Speedglas 9100 welding
fi lter before each use. Cracked, pitted or scratched
fi lter glass or protection plates reduce vision and can
seriously impair protection. All damaged components

the visor before use and ensure that your welding fi lter
is equipped with an outer/inner protection/cover plate.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
ON/OFF
To activate the welding fi lter, press the SHADE/ON button.
The welding fi lter automatically turns OFF after 1 hour of
inactivity
SHADE
Seven different Shade Number settings, split into two
groups, (shades 5 and 8) and (shade 9-13) are available
in the dark state. In order to see the current Shade Number
setting, momentarily press the SHADE/ON button. To select
another Shade Number, press the SHADE/ON button
repeatedly while the indicators on the display are fl ashing.
Move the fl ashing indicator to the desired Shade Number.
To shift between the two shade groups hold the SHADE/ON
button down for 2 seconds.
