Assembling the warning light switch, laying the wire lane
1.
Remove negative terminal from the battery.
2.
Models prior to 6/98
Assemble 2-lead wire set and control light.
- remove the covering of the leg room area under the instrument panel on the driver's side.
- Drill a 10mm hole for the control light in a suitable location within the driver's range of visibility
(for example, an empty switch panel in the middle console).
- Insert the lamp holder in the leadthrough and secure it in place with the counter ring.
- Connect the flat pug receptacles of the 2-lead wire set to the contacts of the control light.
- Replace the flash relay in the main electrical system with the enclosed flash relay. Plug the
2-pin receptacle housing of the line set into the free plug-in space in the flash relay
(contacts C2 and 31).
3.
Models prior to 7/98
Replace warning light.
- The C2 trailer indicator lamp is prefitted in the instrument panel and prewired up to the hazard
warning switch. In order to generate the flashing signal, the hazard warning switch must be
replaced.
- Using pointed pliers, carefully remove the rotating elements (ventilation grille) on the right
and left of the central flow duct. Remove the two Phillips screws behind the rotating elements.
Remove the housing from the central flow duct.
- Release the hazard warning switch from its holder by pressing the two spring clips and remove
towards rear. Remove the plug connection and fit on the supplied hazard warning switch.
- Installation is in the reverse sequence.
4.
Making penetration for wiring harness.
At a suitable location below the right taillamp, in the area of the penetrations already present,
make an 18 mm diameter hole, deburr, treat with anti-corrosion agent and allow to dry.
Lay the socket end of the wire lane through the leadthrough out to the socket retaining plate.
5.
Socket connection
- Fit on the enclosed leadthrough bushing and socket sealing and connect the socket according
to the wiring diagram. Position the socket sealing and screw onto the holder with the enclosed
screws.
Position the leadthrough bushing that is fit on the line set and insert it into the leadthrough to
the boot.
Make sure the seals sit properly.
6.
Lay the wire lane
- Lay wiring harness to right taillamp.
- Remove the vehicle's 2-pin socket housing from right taillamp and adapt to the narrow 2-pin
flat-type socket housing (counter-piece) of the wiring harness. Insert the wiring harness narrow
2-pin socket housing into the vacated socket of the right taillamp and lock in place.
- Insert the 4-pin plug-in housing and the wider 2-pin plug-in housing in the provided sockets of
the right taillamp and lock in place.
- For models that have a third brake light clip the additional earth wire into the free chamber
(on the 2-pin connection near the right tail light) and connect to a suitable earthing point.
- Separate the vehicle's 1-pin plug-in connection at the right taillamp, join to the appropriate
counter-pieces of the wiring harness and lock in place.
