THE PANERAI RADIOMIR 1940
3 DAYS
The Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days watch is a Special Edition executed by
Officine Panerai to celebrate the Paneristi collectors.
It is characterised by the image of a torpedo on the dial and by the "Paneristi
Forever" engraving on the back.
T
HE CASE
The Panerai Radiomir 1940 3 Days watch has a 47 mm case of AISI 316L steel
with a black DLC coating.
AISI 316L stainless steel is highly resistant to corrosion and hypoallergenic,
making it ideal for contact with the skin. The Panerai watches created for the
Italian Navy were made of austenitic stainless steel, a solid, reliable material,
which was also resistant to the extreme environmental conditions in which the
commandos operated. Officine Panerai uses the low-carbon variant of the
AISI 316L alloy: the lower amount of carbon improves its welding qualities.
DLC (diamond-like carbon) coating is a combination of carbon and hydrogen.
It is applied using the PVD (physical vapour deposition) technique, giving steel
some of the properties of diamonds, including hardness and resistance to
wear, abrasion and corrosion.
The case is made using manufacturing techniques involving many complex
operations which ensure a remarkable aesthetic finish and at the same time
great resistance in terms of water- and shock-resistance. The screw-down
crown has a cylindrical shape and is personalised Panerai.
The crystal is of sapphire, made of corundum, a very hard material (second
only to diamond), free of impurities, transparent, resistant to abrasion and with
anti-reflective treatment.
The solid screw-in back is made of steel. On the back of the case are
engraved the case number, the sequential number of the watch with the
18
number produced, the material and the maximum depth of use.
The water-resistance of your watch, indicated on the back by the symbol
, is guaranteed to a pressure of 10 bar, which correspond to the
hydrostatic pressure exerted by a column of water on 1 square centimetre at
a depth of 100 metres under normal conditions. In these circumstances your
watch is therefore water-resistant to a depth of about 100 metres.
T
HE DIAL
The black dial is the Panerai sandwich type, consisting of two superimposed
plates, the upper one is perforated with the numerals and hour markers,
whereas the lower one is covered with a layer of luminous substance.
In order to ensure optimal levels of luminescence and greater resistance over
time, Panerai uses exclusively "Grade A" Swiss Super-LumiNova
this luminous substance, special high-performance pigments are used. This
allows an increase in the duration of the readability of approximately 35%
compared to standard Super-LumiNova
Small seconds at 9 o'clock.
T
HE STRAP
The leather strap is hypo-allergenic. It is fitted with a trapezoidal steel buckle
with a black coating, personalised Panerai.
