4.4.4 Installing the DHW temperature sensor

Ensure that all electrical work is carried out only by a
licensed electrician.
The DHW temperature sensor is included with the solar controller.
The temperature sensor is protected against polarity reversal.
B Install the DHW temperature sensor [2] at location M to measure and
monitor the temperature of the water in the solar storage tank
(
Fig. 3 , page 7).
B Using the tension spring [1], insert the DHW temperature sensor into
the sensor well [3].
NOTICE: Operating fault due to damaged cable!
B Ensure that the sensor leads do not touch any hot
parts of the tank.
Ensure that the sensor surface has contact with the
sensor well surface over its full length.

Commissioning
B Ensure that the installer of the solar thermal system or a qualified
contractor commissions the solar storage tank.
B Commission all components and accessories as specified in the
manufacturer's instructions in the technical documentation.
5.1

Commissioning the solar storage tank

NOTICE: Risk of tank damage from excessively high
pressure!
B Never close the blow-off line of the safety valve.
Carry out the leak test of the solar storage tank
exclusively with drinking water. On the hot water side, the
test pressure must not exceed 150 psi (10.34 bar)
gauge pressure.
B Loosen the 6 hex bolts and remove the inspection cover.
B Remove the soft foam insulation.
B Check the tightening torque 18.5 - 22 lbf-ft (25 - 30 Nm) of the 8
bolts and, if necessary, retighten diagonally.
B To bleed the solar storage tank, open the air bleeder valve or the
highest tap/valve.
B To fill the solar storage tank, open the shut-off valve for the cold water
inlet.
B Before heating up, check whether the heating system, solar storage
tank and pipework are filled with water. Open the air bleeder valve for
this purpose.
B Check all connections, pipework and the inspection port for leaks.
B Replace the soft foam installation and reinstall the inspection cover.
5.2

System installer to inform the owner/operator

Explain to the owner/operator how the solar thermal system and the
solar storage tank work, and how to handle both.
CAUTION: Risk of tank damage from excessively high
pressure!
B The blow-off-line of the safety valve must remain
open; never close it.
B Inform the owner/operator that
– The safety valve blow-off line must always be kept open.
– Proper operation of the safety valve must be checked regularly.
