f) Installing elevator and rudder on the tail boom
Put the provided heat-shrink tube over the tail boom (500 x 10 x 10 mm) and
shrink it using a heat gun. To make sure the tube is not torn, slowly shrink it at
moderate heat.
The tail boom (2) is glued into the recess on the bottom of the elevator (1)
(illustrations 8 A and B).
First hold the tail boom and the elevator unit together without glue to check that
they fit at exactly 90° to each other (illustration 8 C).
If they are properly aligned, use a pen to mark the exact position on the tail
boom.
Remove the tail boom and carefully cut off the part of the heat-shrink tube
extending into the elevator unit. Glue the remaining part to the tail boom.
Now use 5-minute epoxy glue to attach the tail boom to the elevator unit. Again,
make sure the parts are aligned accurately. Also make sure that the cut-out in
the upper side of the elevator (arrow in illustration 8 C) remains free from glue
as the rudder has to be glued in here in the next step.
When the glue has hardened, glue the rudder to the elevator. To do that, apply
5-minute epoxy glue to the recess in the elevator and attach the rudder unit
with the groove. Make sure that the rudder and the elevator unit are aligned
exactly at a 90° angle (illustration 8 D). Remove remaining glue immediately
using a moistened cloth!
g) Installing the tail boom on the fuselage
The tail boom is glued into the recess on the bottom of the fuselage. First hold
the tail boom and the fuselage together without glue to check that they fit at
exactly 90° to each other. See illustration 8 C but measure the distance from
the fuselage nose to the ends of the elevator unit.
If everything is properly aligned, use a pen to mark the exact position on the tail
boom. Remove the tail boom and carefully cut off the part of the heat-shrink
tube extending into the fuselage. Glue the remaining part to the tail boom.
Now use 5-minute epoxy glue to attach the tail boom to the fuselage. Again,
make sure that the alignment is accurate.
