Preparing the Lawn Mower for
Operation
The following steps must be performed before
commencing work:
► Remove packaging material and transport
locks.
► Make sure that the following components are
in safe condition:
– Lawn mower,
– Blade,

► Check the blade,
► Add engine oil,

► Fold up and adjust the handlebar,
► Refuel the lawn mower,
► Set the cutting height,
► Check the controls,
► If the steps cannot be performed: do not use
the lawn mower and consult a STIHL special‐
ist dealer.

Attaching the Handlebar
► Stop the engine.
► Place the lawn mower on a level surface.
► Fit protective sleeves (1) onto upper handle‐
bar (2) with the long side facing inwards.

► Hold upper handlebar (2) against lower han‐
dlebar (3) so the bores align.
► Push bolts (4) through bores (5) from the out‐
side to the inside.
► Fit washers (6) and screw on nuts (7).
► Press cable clips (8) onto the upper handle‐
bar.
► Insert cables (9 + 10) in cable clips (8).
► Close cable clips (8) and allow the tab to
engage.
► Fasten motorstop cable (9) and self-propulsion
cable (10) on the right on the upper handlebar
using cable clip (8), maintaining the distance a
= 37 - 39 cm.
► Fasten motorstop cable (9) to the centre of the
rear transport handle using cable clip (8).
► Press self-propulsion cable (10) into
guide (11) on the detent segment.
6.2
Adding Engine Oil
The engine oil lubricates and cools the engine.
The engine oil specification and capacity can be
found in the engine instruction manual.
