Cutter selection

Factors that affects the choice of tool are:
The workpiece contour (shape and size). If axial plunging into the material is required,
center-cutting tools must be used (usually 2- or 3-cutting end mills).
The type of machines available (power and stability).
The material to be machined
Cutting performance and surface quality

Clamping the milling tools

Correctly clamped and mounted cutters are a prerequisite for good and safe milling
work. Always clamp the milling cutter as short as possible. All cones and cutters must
always be cleaned and checked before insertion. After clamping, check the radial and
axial run-out of the milling tools.
With collet holder:
Finger or end mills are clamped with collet holders. Use only the appropriate
collets and clean them before inserting (concentricity) and clamp them well
with the tightening nut. If the milling cutter is clamped on the machine, it must
be held to prevent it from falling down. The cutting edges are sensitive to
impacts. All tools with cylindrical shank and corresponding diameter can be
clamped in the collet holder.
