Determine the requirement power by finding the rated power of each device. This information is
given by the tool manufacturer and can be found on the equipment manufacturer's plate or in the
tool's operating manual.
•
In General, the capacitive and inductive loads, particularly those driven by the motor have a peak
consumption at startup. The following table is an example of power consumption of devices at
start-up.

5. POWER INFORMATIONS

Some devices need more power to start. This means that the amount of electricity that the device
needs to be able to start may be greater than the amount of current required to operate the device.
Electric devices and tools normally have a label indicating their Voltage (V), Cycles (Hz), Current (A)
and Electric Power (W), necessary for the operation of the device or tool. For questions about certain
electrical devices or tools, contact the dealer or the nearest maintenance / repair service.

Electric charges (incandescent lamps or hot plates) need the same intensity both during start-up
and during use.
•
Charges of the fluorescent lamp type require 1.2 to 2 times the power indicated for start-up.
•
Charges for mercury lamps require 2 to 3 times the power indicated for start-up.
•
Electric motors require a large amount of current when starting. The power required depends on
the type of engine and the use of this engine. As soon as the engine reaches its nominal speed of
rotation, the device consumes only 30 to 50% of this starting current to continue operating.

Most electrical devices require 1.2 to 3 times more intensity to walk during charge use. Thus, a
5,000 watt power take off alternator supplies power to a 1.800 to 4.000 watt power tool.

Loads like submersible pumps and air compressors require a very high intensity to start. They need
an intensity 3 to 5 times higher than the normal intensity to be able to start. An alternator driven by
tractor of 5.000 Watts can for example activate only a pump of 1.000 to 1.700 Watts.
