The specially designed Solis measuring instrument helps you wipe off excess coffee
powder at the flick of the wrist and clean the edge of the portafilter.
a) Choosing the right blade
– Choose the right blade for the size of your filter inserts. You can choose from
3 blade sizes: 58 mm, 54 mm or 50 mm. The blade size should match the
diameter of the filter insert.
– The 54 mm and 58 mm blades are already inserted in the measuring instru-
ment and can be moved out on the top or the bottom by turning the little
wheel. The 50 mm blade is included separately and can be inserted into the
instrument when needed.

extended all the way.
Note: The wheel is a bit harder to turn in the end near the "1" position, this is
normal.
Now you can pull the 54 mm blade out of the instrument.

Now, put the 50 mm blade in its place in the instrument. Turn the wheel back to the
right until the new blade is set to "4" in the marking. At first, you might have to press
lightly on the blade against the centre of the housing to make the inlying cogs bite.
Then, simultaneously press against the 50 mm and 58 mm blades, in the direction of

b) Wiping off excess coffee powder with the blade

the marking, you can now wipe off the leftovers of the pressed coffee powder.

If you turn the instrument to the left and right while holding the portafilter over the
drip tray of your espresso machine, the excess coffee powder is wiped off the edge of
the portafilter, leaving exactly the right amount of coffee powder in the filter insert.
Note: If the blade does not reach the coffee powder, you have filled too little coffee
powder into the filter insert. In this case, increase the amount of coffee powder by
setting the GRIND TIME dial (E) to a higher time.
