Place the brace on your leg. Ensure correct positioning. The joint should be positioned at the height
of the centre of the patella (middle of the kneecap) and on the side of the leg.
4
Close the fasteners in the following order, always from the centre of the knee downwards, then from
the middle of the knee upwards:
1. Fastener close to the knee on the lower leg
2. Fastener away from the knee on the lower leg
3. Fastener close to the knee on the thigh
4. Fastener away from the knee on the thigh
Whilst tightening the fastener, smoothen it in the tension direction with your free hand. This avoids twisting
the brace on the leg.
Information: should you incur pressure sores, pain or other problems whilst wearing the brace, remove
it and contact your technician. Allow yourself time to become accustomed to the brace and increase the
wearing time gradually. You can remove the brace during longer periods of rest. If you have questions
regarding the use and wearing time, please refer to your physician or technician.
Information for the technician:
Important note: the brace may only be adapted by expert staff! The BORT OA-Xpress can provide for axial
differences of up to 5°.
Application of model A:
– Use in case of varus dislocation/relief of the medial compartment on the right leg
(the brace is positioned laterally).
– Use in case of varus dislocation/relief of the medial compartment on the left leg
(the brace is positioned medially).
Application of model B:
– Use in case of varus dislocation/relief of the lateral compartment on the right leg
(the brace is positioned medially).
– Use in case of varus dislocation/relief of the medial compartment on the left leg
(the brace is positioned laterally).
Adaption of the BORT OA-Xpress knee brace on the patient:
1
Open all the brace's fasteners. You can either do this by opening the quick action fasteners or by
unlooping the belt straps. The strap length can be set using the shorter straps.
2
The patient should sit down and slip forwards to the edge of the chair, the knee joint is bent
approx. 30°.
3
Place the brace on the patient's leg and use the enclosed key to adapt the brace to the patient's
leg axis. Ensure correct positioning. The polycentric joint should be positioned at the height of
the centre of the patella and on the side of the leg. If required, the side condyle pad (10 mm material
thickness) can be replaced with a thinner version (7 mm material thickness).
